Merdeka Hotel — Hotel in Johor

Frankly, I think I gotten the room at a good bargain. However, rest assured that I will also always check on the room photos and details prior to any booking (yes, irregardless of the price).||1) Room booked is not as how decent, how clean it is as showed in the booking site, Agoda.com.|2) Received the 1st room, checked in, rather dirty and certainly not well maintained - stained walls, hair on the bed, dusty bedside table, no closet and no hangers, no bedroom slippers or towel. Upon checking with the staff, was told some of the items will only be provided upon request ; some doesn't come with it at all. 😂 Most interesting is, the staff mentioned he has no idea what is being showed on booking site! Guess what, my better half is thinking if I've booked a quick hotel. 😅 |3) Well, managed to get the room changed. Seems better but well, below expectation for a so called 3 star hotel as per booking site. Huge patch of water leaking marks on the ceiling, semi-broken window blinds, etc.|4) Service level - the guy is working alone, all alone for the night. Well, doesn't seems too cheerful but at least helpful in changing the room.||Overall, the hotel is kinda run down. Don't be conned by photos unless you really don't mind. I would really compliment on the nice and clean lobby but certainly not on the others, including the musky carpet along the corridor. My advise is twice twice when you make a booking. All depends if you are looking for a cheap room (so long there's a bed) or cheap quality hotel rooms. ||I do hope the hotel manager/ owner can really improve the hotel standards.||By the way, why would there be an astray if smoking is not permitted in the room? Isn't it funny? Well.. That's just how...

Built in 1965, the original Hotel Merdeka was designed to cater Royal Johor & WGCC Member after Malaya Independent Day.

Constructed in a hybrid of neo-classical and art deco styles, the 33 rooms hotel sat on a commanding hilltop site facing another of Kluang’s famous landmarks, the Gunung Lambak & Kluang Golf Country Club. The main building is characterised by tall white classically proportioned strong grid and detailed cornices. The curved driveway and unique entrance contribute to the sense of grandeur.

The hotel catered to every whim and fancy of contemporary society. In Malayan history, modern sanitation was introduced in all rooms, with hot and cold water, showers, and long baths in 33rooms, considered the height of luxury in its day.

Custom designed lobby and colonial cafeteria setting added to the sumptuous surroundings. A special feature was the outdoor garden, with a dance floor and seating for 350 guests. Artistes from all over the nation performed at the hotel. In its heyday, The Hotel Merdeka was the most historical in Kluang , unrivalled for its prestige and luxury. Favoured by the colonial elite and prominent visitors, she was the venue for extravagant parties, outdoor gardens function and that most European of traditions, the garden tea dance.

By the 1990s, however, the hotel had lost its lustre, giving way to newer, bigger and more luxurious hotels. Saved from demolition by the town reformation, she was named as a historical building. Teras Eco is then entrusted with the restoration of this national treasure, a project the Company undertook...

I stay in Standard Twin Room (2 single bed) with window. I think for budget hotel, this hotel is good. Breakfast consider cheap with simple breakfast. They have lift, its ancient lift with ancient button..Huhu.. But you can used it, just don't use it with lots of stuff/luggage or people.. Maybe 1-3 people at one time.. If you have heavy luggage maybe only 1 people with that luggage.. . . I think the only thing you need to know is their toilet in the room.. The toilet don't have lock so if you with kids/family, they can just open it easily and if you with friend, well, you have to tell them not to walk Infront of the toilet ya.. Haha.. No curtain in the toilet.. Have heater.. Basic toiletries such as Shampoo & Body Shower provided.. Only that with towel.. . . The room is totally tiles, No carpet.. So you can bring your own bedroom slippers or just wear stocking. Other basic amenities is 2 small bottle drinking water, glass, and kettle. I have no problem with air-conditioning , my room AC is in good condition. . . Place to eat, have plenty around 10-13min from hotel. But if you lazy, just go to sunway kluang mall. Aeon Big dont have anything just simple mall, no food court or such.. Already go there, its have nothing so we decide to go to kluang mall instead.. Cafe2 to santai2 around there mostly close around 5pm/6pm.. . . If you simple person, okay with this condition of budget hotel, this place is okay for you.. I stay here because its the only hotel soo near with the place i need to go (work/outstation).. OH! bring your own hanger.. They don't...
