My partner and I stayed at AB guesthouse for 4D3N. Overall, the stay was good.
Rooms were clean, staff were helpful and responded to whatsapp messages quickly!
However, I couldn't rate it 5 stars due to its location near to the mosque. As some have reviewed previously, yes, the prayers do go on between 6am-7am. It's like a wake up call for us to be awaken by loud sounds from the speakers. It does go on throughout the day for a short period but we weren't too bothered by it as we would be out and about. It then comes back again at night from 7pm-10pm.
On our last night, the room had attracted some mosquitoes. It didn't bother me as they mostly attacked my partner. LOL! Bring repellent.
If only the room had a sink, it would've made it so much more convenient. But nonetheless, we were okay without it.
AC in the room was good, it certainly did a wonderful job of making the room cold really quickly in the hot weather.
The guesthouse is located about 2mins walk to a food court by the beach and several other food places. For lunch we usually ate at the food court as other places were closed. While at night, we tried food from individual restaurants. Our favourite was Pak Jokong! It's a bright yellow colored place, with a playground in front of it. You won't miss it! Another place for dinner was Idaman Cafe (I think that's the name).
If you don't want to spend much on hiring a water taxi to get to other beaches, there is one just in front of Nemo Chalet. About 5-8mins walk from the guesthouse. Basically the opposite end of the island. It's a clean and quiet beach.
I'd say staying in the fishermen village area is a good option as you can get everything here.
Quiet beach, wide variety of food choices that are cheap, making friends with the locals and their kids were nice too!
Oh yes!and also, for any sea glass enthusiasts here, there's so many of them at this beach! I picked a bag full but sadly had to pick my favourite ones due to weight restrictions...
Read moreVery basic accommodation. Rooms are flimsy almost shanty construction, can be locked but no safe. Bathroom has toilet & shower but no sink? AC works well & there is also a fan. There is also WiFi. Service, there wasn't any in 9 days. The reception was open twice when we were there. So I can't criticise the service, just didn't get any. NB there is an endless supply of filtered water. No plastic water bottles necessary. The location is next to the mosque, great if Ur a devout Moslem. Audible loud praying 5.30am on & off through to 9pm each day. The rooms are also near 'Rubbish' beach, the other side of the Mosque. So named by us due to the piles of stinking rubbish piled up on the mosque side of the beach. Scavenged on by mangey cats, birds & monitor lizards. Unfortunately at high spring tide with wind the refuse blows & gets washed into the sea. When snorkelling, clearly this has been happening for years, as plenty of discarded items at the bottom of the sea. The Perhentian islands are a marine park. The lack of any logical or eco waste management policy is a disgrace. Burning rubbish, polluting the air & sea MUST STOP. Plastic water bottles must be banned! The village could be cleaned up in a week, if at least half the villagers did a working bee for a few days. The mosque is spotless but not outside the fence. If I were the owner of AB, I'd organise a clean up myself. If I lived in the village I'd sort it out. Across all the Perhentian waste management or the lack there of...
Read moreRight almost at the end of the Kampung... Once you get off the ferry, just walk towards the mosque, pass the restaurants and stalls.
When we arrived, they left a note at the counter (outside the main guest house), on our assigned rooms. The aircon is turned on, very considerate.
Didn't see any staff entire stay of 3 days.
My room is big but I realised that the sink is outside or in the main living room.
As it is next to the mosque, you'll hear their prayers 5x a day from 5.20am til as late as 9.30pm cos sometimes they have long sermons. Many breaks in between, not entire time.
Good aircon and there's a fan if you need. Water pressure is good....
