I stayed 6 nights at Villa Anakao with my family. The experience overall was very good. On arrival at 11:00AM, Patricia interacted with us. We were offered a cold towel and cold drinks for refreshments. Since we were early, the room was getting cleaned. We completed the check-in process and were in the room by 12:00PM.
The family room on the first floor up a steep flight of stairs was spacious and had an outdoor seating area. The AC was functional, keeping the room comfortably cool. The bathroom and shower area were small but functional. The ceilings next to the bed headboard were low and care was needed to not hit the roof while accessing this side of the room. The room also had a small refrigerator which we used to store drinks during the stay.
The villa has a lot of history. The sea is right behind the villa but there is a rocky ledge and hence, sea is not accessible. There is a gate to the sea but it is not the most convenient. A beach within walking distance of the villa is the best option. We had lunch (at the outdoor seating area) and dinner (in room) on the first day. The food was tasty, and filling and the price was in line with what you would get in restaurants outside. The breakfast options were limited to bread slices, cheese slices, jams, honey, eggs done in various ways, waffles, pancakes, fruits etc. along with coffee. The coffee comes from a machine which happens to be a bit finicky.
There is a friendly dog (Zulu) on the property. Kids would enjoy interacting with it.
The villa is about 6 kms to Cauden waterfront in Port Louis. Flic en Flac is about 15 kms, Tamarin about 25kms, Bagatelle mall about 10 kms, Airport about 47 kms, Chamarel about 35 kms, Mahebourg about 45 kms, ile Aux Cerfs about 40 kms accessible via boat from Pointe Maurice. With a rental car, driving to these places from villa Anakao was a breeze. Parking inside the villa was always available. There is a commuter bus that runs on the road outside the villa but having a car is the most convenient. Renting the car from the Airport and driving to the villa is the best option.
Patricia was around to answer any questions. Another gentleman, whose name I forgot, helped us with some tips on places to visit. We were very satisfied with the stay, we mostly spent the nights given that we left the villa at 9:30AM in the morning and returned at 9:00PM on all the days. I would recommend the villa to anyone who is looking for a more economical option along with history...
Read moreWe stayed at Villa Anakao in Port Louis for three nights while attending a wedding. It served its purpose well as a budget-friendly place to rest our heads, though we didn’t spend much time there.||Service: The standout feature of our stay. The staff were wonderful—polite, attentive, and always ready to help. We really appreciated the warm and welcoming atmosphere they created.||Food: A pleasant surprise. Breakfast was included and exceeded our expectations—especially the pancakes and perfectly cooked bacon. For lunch, we had both the Caesar and grilled vegetable salads. The grilled vegetable salad, in particular, was absolutely delicious and highly recommended. It was also by far the cheapest meal we had during our two-week trip, making it excellent value for money.||Setting: This is where the experience could be improved. While the hotel is described as a traditional Mauritian stay, it felt more like a hostel in terms of decor and amenities. We stayed in a sea view room; the bed was comfortable, but the room felt dated and lacked decent lighting—we often had to use our phone torches just to see properly. Getting ready in the main room wasn’t really an option due to the poor lighting, so the bathroom was the only viable space. In contrast, our friends stayed in the "romantic room," which had been clearly renovated and felt much more modern and inviting. If more rooms were upgraded to that standard, it would significantly elevate the overall guest experience.||Overall: Villa Anakao was exactly what we needed—a simple, affordable base during a busy weekend. While the accommodation could benefit from some updates, the excellent service and surprisingly good food make it a solid choice for budget-conscious travellers. With a few improvements, this could be a standout Mauritian bed...
Read morereally loved the entire villa. We stayed in the outdoor family villa which was pretty, cozy and adorable. The drawing room was a bit dark but room service was prompt and quick and managed to add some LED lights to it. The TV was in working condition but had no channels on it but it wasn't bothering us at all. I would have loved for some more breakfast options but whatever that was present was enough and was satisfying. The room has its own sink, cooking stove, microwave, refrigerator, washing machine, everything. The resident dog was adorable and wasn't a problem at all during the entire trip. Rooms are very clean and regular room servicing and cleaning was done, even the clothes we had spread out on our beds were neatly folded. Night time dinner options were good. The chicken spaghetti was absolutely fantastic and highly recommended. Grilled fish and chicken was good too. The manager during the day shift was very professional, understanding and clear with his message communicated to us and was very welcoming and offered us welcome drinks on our arrival. The evening caretaker or manager guy Lukas was really chill and nice guy, had nice convo with him. Overall this villa definitely is worth it and the location is nice. Its sea facing, though without a beach due to rocks but still scenic and beautiful with nice view of...
