My family and I just had a wonderful 3 weeks stay at Shangrila Le Touesrrok, Mauritius. As most reviews have already commented, the resort is absolutely stunning both in terms of the luxurious design of the property, and the beauty of the majestic beaches and lush gardens that surround it. ||You really do feel you are in your own secluded paradise with the turquoise lagoons, white sands, singing birds, mature trees and flowering plants everywhere you look. From the moment we arrived we felt a pure sense of calm and serenity and by the time we left we were walking on clouds.||We made the most of the extensive facilities on offer, and there are a lot! If you are into your sports then you are in for a treat. There are excellent floodlit tennis and panel courts which were a joy to play on. If you golf, the Ile aux Cerf Golf Club, only a short private boat ride away, is hands down one of the most beautiful courses you’ll ever play, with the ocean views from the 11th and 18th greens literally taking your breath away. There are also a wide range of water sports for the whole family to enjoy right on the beach - including pedalos, kayaking, padel boarding, kite surfing, snorkelling and waterskiing.||The food on offer at the multiple restaurants was consistently excellent. The varied offerings at TSK, Safran and Coco’s were all mouthwatering but our standout favourite was Kushi for its delicious and beautifully presented sushi in a chique and stylish setting overlooking the lagoon. A real gem and I feel like we were there every other night! The Mauritian Night held in the outdoor gardens every week was also a highlight for us as we got to experience the delicious local cuisine whilst watching the vibrant performances of the sega musicians and dancers. ||I could go on but it’s all been said. However, what should not be understated is the genuine warmth, kindness and world class hospitality of the whole Shangrila team. Beyond all the luxury, beaches, food and facilities, the people are what really makes this place the paradise it is. We have been to many 5 star resorts around the world and what really set Shangrila Mauritius apart were its people. ||Everyone we met was warm, welcoming and genuinely enthusiastic to help make our stay as comfortable as possible. A few special thanks goes to those who really made our stay special:||Navmi our host - thank you for your warm welcome and being an endless fountain of information on all things at the hotel and Mauritius. We really appreciated you checking in on us throughout our stay to make sure we were having a good time. Also special thanks to Vijesh and the rest of the team at reception who were so helpful. ||Micheal at Concierge - thank you for your daily warm greetings, introducing us to Mauritius, our lovely chats and helping with all our bookings at the golf course. It was a pleasure getting to know you. ||Jean-Marc at the lobby - thank you for your constant enthusiasm and engaging conversations. You always brought a smile to our face, especially our daughter who you treated so well!||Dario and Rakesh at Kushi - thank you for making our multiple visits to Kushi so special and comfortable. Your personalised service and hospitality was above and beyond - including remembering how we liked our favourite dishes - and was part of the reason we kept coming back!||Devkumar - thank you to you and your housekeeping team for keeping our room (350) immaculate throughout our stay. We really appreciated you regularly checking on us to see if we were comfortable and if we needed anything. It was great to get to know you and we appreciated that you were always on hand to help. Also a special thanks to Aswan for his service with a smile. ||Cecile and Nicole at TSK - your smiles and warm welcomes at breakfast each morning were like sunshine - the best way to start the day! Thank you for your personalised service/hospitality and lively conversation. Also special mentions to Sharda, Diana and Dylan who always looked after us well when dining. ||Rosario - thank you for all the support you gave us at the sports centre. From patiently introducing us as beginners to archery, to giving excellent tennis coaching tips to my daughter (tennis fanatic). It was lovely getting to know you throughout our stay. ||The whole team at the front desk were also excellent - extremely helpful, especially with the amount of luggage we had, and always welcomed us back to the property with a smile. Special thanks to Deepak and Parwez who always made time to talk and check if we needed anything.||We can’t wait to return to Mauritius and get back to paradise...
Read moreWe had an incredible stay at the beautiful Shangri-La Touessrok, Mauritius. From beginning to end, the experience was nothing short of five stars.
Arrival: From the moment our driver pulled to the entrance gates, we could feel the warmth of the property. The guard swiftly checked our names and gave us the warmest greeting. We definitely felt like they were 'expecting us.' Once at the main entrance, a group of staff members (including, Haresh, the Concierge Leader) were there to personally welcome us. Stacey was warm, professional and attentive, giving a detailed overview of our reservation and property. She personally guided us to our suite and provided a thorough tour. What stood out about Stacey was her ability to connect in an authentic way; when finding out my partner loved marine life, she mentioned there are three turtles living on the property and she would be more than happy to personally escort us there the following day! Another thank you to Harrish, the Guest Relations Manager, for your service and personal attention throughout our stay.
Room: We were informed at check-in that we got upgraded to the Ocean View Frangipani Club Junior Suite, which came with some exclusive benefits. The room itself had modern decor and was spotless. Since we got in late, the room was already turned down; one lovely detail was the infusion left each evening. Thank you to Wanda, our housekeeper, who ensured everything was well-stocked and refreshed throughout our stay. She did it all so well and with a warm smile!
Dinner Buffet: Since we had no prior reservations, we decided to try the dinner buffet, which was beautifully presented and plentiful. What stood out was the passion of the staff preparing the dishes. One young Indian chef, doing his apprenticeship at the hotel, walked us through the different areas and offered his culinary insight. You could see how excited he was to chat about each dish and was not shy to offer recommendations!
Breakfast at Republik: Given our Club suite upgrade, we got access to all the benefits including a-la-carte breakfast by the beach. We got to start the day in a peaceful and quiet environment. Given how much we loved this, we decided to come here both days and skip the breakfast buffet! Thank you to the waiters who were hospitable, friendly, and provided swift, yet attentive service.
Chi Spa: We got a chance to experience treatments on both days. I had the Signature Asian Blend and Hot Stone Massage, while my partner had the Deep Tissue Sports Massage on both days. The front desk staff and therapists were wonderful and attentive.
Private Island: One unique feature of the Shangri-La is the private island. From the jetty located on the property, you are taken by private boat to a nearby island where you can spend the day relaxing in nature. It was peaceful and quiet when we visited. Even the washrooms were well-stocked and clean. As is the case with the main property, the staff are friendly and attentive and proud of working for the resort.
Boathouse: The resort offers many complimentary water sports. Everything is easy to arrange and the guides are friendly and supportive. Thank you to Jason who was patient and friendly!
Beach Service: A big thank you to Prakash, the Beach and Pool Area Manager, who maintains a well-run operation. He is warm, hospitable and a truly wonderful man. The service by the beach is fast and attentive. Towels are replenished quickly, the areas are well-stocked, and attendants walk around continuously to ensure your every need is taken care of. However, that's not even needed given there is a call button by each beach chair! Thank you to Stefano at the beach for the prompt service and friendly demeanour. On our last day, Prakash surprised us with freshly-cut coconuts!
A big thank you to everyone from management to front-line staff who are truly delivering service from the heart. We were truly delighted with our stay and the VIP treatment we received. You are living up to Shangri-La's promise of warm Asian hospitality with a true Mauritian...
Read moreVery disappointing experience at Shangri-La ale Touessrok. We booked our stay as part of our honeymoon trip, hoping and wishing for the ultimate luxury experience. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed and let down by a number of elements. Firstly, we were given a different room to what we had booked (we booked a 1st floor junior suite frangipani club with a ocean view but instead we were given a ground floor suite that looked out onto some rocks and part ocean - no beach). Despite this we were happy to stick with the room. During our stay we had to request that the air con be fixed - as in its original state it offered barely any comfort or cooling to the room. Given this is a luxury room / hotel in a location that at the time was 30’-40’ in heat, it was incredibly disappointing when when we were told that this couldn’t be fixed or improved. Instead we were given a standing plug in fan. Which just about did the job, but was incredibly loud and not possible to sleep with. Unfortunately this therefore lead to a few sweaty and sleepless nights. We were also a little disappointed with the mini bar. This sounds like a very minor issue, however despite a good range of water and softs, it was only equipped with 2 beers and no wine or spirits. Fortunately for me my wife is not a beer drinker, however this meant that she was not able to make the most out of the fridge selection. There was also a lack of flavoured teas available - however we were thankfully able to request these be added for the remainder of our stay. Another issue with the ground floor room was locals walking by our window at various hours in the day, looking in and giving us minimal privacy (hence why we originally booked the 1st floor). Given this was meant to be one of the more exclusive rooms, we were left very frustrated. Despite the room peepers, small mini bar selection and the lack of air con, the room and amenities were nice.
Another key issue we found was the lack of labelling on food at the buffet - always a problem when you’re a vegetarian and with a gluten allergy. This meant that options at dinner were very limited and basic. Staff were more than willing when asked to make alternatives (we very much appreciated this!!) however for ease and comfort of your own personal stay / experience, it’d be much wiser to have foods labelled and a range considered for all dietary requirements. A bit more education on this amongst staff would be beneficial too. For example, one lunch time we ordered the vegan noodle dish with dumplings, however they didn’t have the dumplings available. Instead they offered to make some alternate dumplings (which we accepted, providing they were vegetarian). They then returned with chicken dumplings. Not good.
We also had issues with the state of the adults pool. Whilst very peaceful and beautiful, we found that the pool was constantly dirty. Always full of bush / tree debris. Bugs, sand and other general dirt. We noted that this was cleaned on a regular basis, however the elements surrounding it meant that it was constantly dirty and unpleasant to swim in.
Despite these negatives, the staff were attentive and pleasant. We found that the staff were very professional and very formal. Not necessarily a problem, however this made it hard to engage with them and to build a personal connection. Something me and my wife like to do when we’re staying at a hotel. The people help make the experience and unfortunately at Shangri La we didn’t feel that same love or connection.
We very much enjoyed the frangipani hour, as well as the E-bike tour to Flaq market. This was our highlight of our stay. The restaurants and buffet themed nights were okay. We also paid for dinner on the beach. Again, another highlight. The chef helped us in recommending a 5 course meal for me and my wife (x1 normal and x1 veggie). Certainly the best meal of the trip.
Overall we were very disappointed with our experience. It was okay and good in parts. However given the expectations, price and reputation, we were left very unimpressed...
