I had a very disappointing experience at Casa Santiago. While the home itself was decent for a short stay, the host made an unfounded and misleading damage claim after I checked out—accusing me of causing damage to a mattress I never even saw uncovered. The mattress was always covered with clean sheets, and I only saw it briefly when I changed the sheets (which I requested from the host and replaced myself). The host never provided any photos directly to me, only submitted them after the fact—claiming the mattress was “irreparably damaged” and demanding I pay nearly $630 to replace it at full cost after 2 ½ years of use at a short stay location like this. There were no pictures of the mattress before I arrived, no proof the damage happened during my short 2-night stay, and no pictures of the sheets that should have shown any damage if it occurred while I was there. I’ve stayed in many places around the world and never had an issue like this. This experience felt opportunistic and deeply unfair. If you do choose to stay here, document everything—including the mattress under the sheets—because you may be blamed for pre-existing issues...
