"Feces or chocolate?"
That was the question my husband asked me upon noting a fresh brown smear on the rug by our bedside in our newly rented room at Hotel Partana. We were the only hotel guests on a popular weekend and wondered why--but only at first--until we realized that the conditions of the resort were no longer hospitable. We’ve stayed here for years, but won’t stay again unless some serious repairs and/renovations are performed.
Here’s our list:
Rooms need to be painted and deep cleaned, not just touched up as the rooms were dirty and in disrepair. In fact, the floors were so filthy that we started wearing shoes to use the restroom. Our shower would not drain and the water pooled up to our ankles. We also noticed writing on the shower glass left from the previous guest, so the room was obviously not properly cleaned.
The bed and bath linens were very dingy, stained and gray, and no longer white as they used to be. The bathrobes were really old and stained as well. Our friends noticed that the mini bar snacks were arranged in a box held together by blue painters tape--just wow.
The pavers by the pool were loose and a serious safety hazard. The waterfall by the pool is no longer in use and there was tape over the opening, kind of sad. The pools also needed to be cleaned as there was debris at the bottom of both pools. My husband skimmed both pools himself during our stay. Also, some of the tables by the pools were rusty and needed paint.
No housekeeping services were performed during our two night reservation. Upon checking out, the attendant said she thought we requested not to have housekeeping services, but we never made that request--very strange. The maid service tip from the previous guest was found on the floor, so we questioned whether or how thoroughly the room was cleaned before we checked in (or at all?).
Upon checking in, the couple we were traveling with requested to upgrade their room and was told that it wasn't possible, however, no one else checked in during the entirety of our stay and there were multiple rooms available--very weird. Our car was the only one in the lot all weekend.
We expressed our dissatisfaction to management, but were not given much of an explanation regarding the decline in cleanliness, maintenance, and service. For the price, you can find a MUCH more comfortable stay in the Valle. It’s a shame as this hotel used to be very nice...
Read moreMy husband and I spent 4 nights at Hotel Partana and really enjoyed our stay. Reservations were made via Airbnb. Pictures of the room and description of amenities were accurate. I highly recommend coordinating a time of arrival as staff is on property only limited hours. GPS ETA is accurate (we crossed Otay Mesa border and took the toll road; ~$6 USD each way for the toll). Though nobody was on property full time, there is a list with contact information should you require anything. We didn't have a reason to contact anyone during our stay, so I don't know how fast or responsive they may be. ||||The 6 rooms are private and comprised of 3 freestanding structures (i.e. Rooms 1 and 2 share a common wall), each with a separate entrance and a designated parking space. The path from the parking lot to the room is loose gravel, so be prepared to carry your luggage, including up 5 or so steps. ||||We were told the hotel had only been open for a few months (I think around July 2018), so everything still looked quite new and was nice and clean. There is a spacious closet and a bar area with complimentary bottled water and Nespresso coffee pods. As it was quite chilly during our stay in November, we appreciated the heater, which worked great in the room, though, unfortunately, did not extend to the bathroom. The only complaint I had was that the sink in the bathroom did not appear to have hot water. However, the shower worked great and had plenty of hot water. Housekeeping arrives daily. ||||This hotel is centrally located, being not more than 15-20 minutes driving distance to a majority of restaurants and wineries in the region. After a full day of wine tasting, having two highly rated restaurants on property, Finca Altozano and Animale, is more than enough reason to stay here. I also recommend trying food at their permanent lunch truck in an Airstream trailer (Lupe) and coffee at Das Cortez coffee stand. As if that weren't enough, the property also has a gelato stand, a small boutique, a garden to roam around, a petting pen of goats, pigs and chickens, and beautiful seating areas overlooking the vineyard. There is a security guard at the entrance when the restaurants are open, though, the area felt quite safe during the daytime and at night. ||||This was our first time in Valle de Guadalupe and we really enjoyed our stay as well as the restaurants and wineries in the area. I would highly recommend...
