We went to the steakhouse on the ground floor of this hotel. The place was nice and the view was great from the restaurant. That was about the only positive thing that this restaurant has to offer. The prices were very expensive and the food was not good at all. On top of that, it took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get our food. The arrachera I ordered was over cooked and chewy. I thought ordering a steak at a Sonora steakhouse would have been awesome, but I was completely wrong. It was honestly the worst steak I have even eaten in Ensenada. Plus it was tiny for the price that they were charging. My wife ordered Camarones a la Parrilla which are supposed to be grilled shrimp. She was surprised when they came breaded and fried. She is Mexican and speaks perfect Spanish, so this was not an issue of translation. She even asked the waiter if the order was right. His answer was that it was Panko and not breaded and fried. LOL. That is the same thing, but Japanese breading. He also said that the description on the menu is in fact wrong and he apologized. I also forgot to mention that her shrimp were cold and upon biting one it seemed half cooked inside. You would think that they would tell you that when you order... My son ordered a vegetable pesto pasta. It had 0 flavor and there were huge chunks of raw carrot in it. Who the hell puts huge pieces of raw carrot in a pasta??? There were only two tables in the restaurant. Ours and the people next to us. They were also visibly annoyed at the slow service and told us that they had an appointment at 4 PM and figured eating there would be fast due to the lack of patrons. However, now they were going to have to get everything to go and were not happy at all. We also had a party to get to at 4 PM for my son. We sat down at 3 PM thinking we would be fine. We left the restaurant at 4:45 PM after the food arrived at 4:15 PM. We asked for the check when the food got there and took some of it to go as well. They apologized for the wait and gave us free dessert. After all of the crappy food that we ate there, we were not interested and left without the dessert. They also gave us a welcome dish when you sit down which was chicharron de arrachera. So basically fried strings of arrachera meat with some tortillas. It was hard as a rock and you couldn't even chew it. This place is a complete disaster in the kitchen. The waiter was fine and I still tipped him 20%. I actually told him on the way out that I wanted to tip him well as it was not his fault, but due to the horrible service and food from the kitchen.... We would never be coming back. He understood completely and said that they were overwhelmed in the kitchen and knew that things were taking so long. Overwhelmed with 2 tables? Only 3 people at one table and 2 at the other? So serving 5 people was overwhelming? All in all out bill was around $ 100.00 for crappy food. This place is doomed to fail and will be gone in a year max. I now understand why it was...
Read moreWe attended a wedding and stayed at the Marea Vista Hotel for four days and three nights. For comparison let me preface that in the past 12 months I have made multiple visits to Mexico and have stayed in many of the nice resort cities in Mexico and some really nice hotels like the Grand Luxe in PV. The Marea Vista, and Esenada for that matter, are not like a Cabo or Cancun fine hotelier, but the rooms are nice, and clean we had a Jr. Suite and two regular rooms. I would go with a Jr. Suite as my minimum sized room so you have some room to stretch. The hotel is not by the center of the city so plan on a taxi ride. The staff was very helpful and accommodating, the on-site restaurants were convenient. The asian fusion one did not impress me as the teriyaki chicken was dry as was the rice, but the lemonade was good. I ate in the other restaurant for lunch (which begins at 1 pm) and the skirt steak was tasty and the green juice was great, and the breakfast there was also very good, but we didn't find out until the second day that two continental breakfasts were included for each room so if you stay here check on that. The real only negative was the hot water, on the last night and the last day I took cold showers. Our room was on the third floor and my in-laws on the second floor had no problems. I inquired when we departed and was told that this is a common problem when the water pressure is too low. The fitness center is also small, just FYI. Things I liked-well stocked mini bar with drinks and food, ample parking, helpful staff, right across from the beach (our rooms all faced the mountains, which is not such a nice view), and there is an OXXO store just two doors down which is like a 7-11 to get drinks and food 24/7. Overall, if I went back to Ensenda I would consider this...
