It seems like people disagree about this place? Some -- like me and my BFF -- loved it. If you need super reliable wifi, great TV selection, pool, and deluxe spiffiness in general, this is not for you. On the other hand, if you like an old-fashioned look and feel, this sprawling place may please you as it did us. It has a number of cool bungalows, plus a few studio buildings, spread around a tiny well-kept garden-filled gated "campus" right on the main road. We found it charming and interesting, even if a little funky or run down in spots. Great waterside location, just north of center of town. it was too cold to swim in early April, but the beautiful (rocky) beach is right there. No wifi in spite of staff efforts on day 1, but then it worked fine for next 2 days. We did not watch TV or care much about the wifi. Strong great shower... 1980's era bathroom tiles, all good! The many room-types confused us, and we had helpful email exchanges to make the right choice: two connected large rooms w a kitchen and balconies, water view, perfect for us. We liked the staff. The security felt good. With special thanks to an outraged previous reviewer, i was prepared when they took a few minutes on checkout to check our rooms for damages before refunding our deposit. The restaurant and wine-bar, not affiliated i don't think, but right there, are excellent. I...
Read moreMy bf and I decided to visit this cozy hotel again. We were there 3-4 years ago and really liked the value, security, peacefulness and cottage that we had. This time around, the value was not so great for the place that we got. We paid almost $350 for the weekend. When my bf and 2 teens first arrived and checked in, the customer service was not the greatest. I overlooked it. We were given our keys and went to our room/cabin/chateau, or whatever you want to call it. We opened the door to be met by a gazillion mosquitos and a musty smell throughout the place but in their defense it was clean. We did not have a.c. and their wifi still sucked. It was pretty much non existent. I'd figure that in all that time we hadn't been there that it would have been upgraded. Nope, wrong. We decided to make use of one of the pools and saw that it was still under construction... FROM 4 YEARS AGO! Anyway, we used the small pool (wanna be jacuzzi) and the water was not hot. We hung out for a bit and decided to go back to our room and were able to get 2 hot showers for the entire duration of our stay. We tried watching TV and got mostly static. It really sucks that this cool peaceful place is in much need of repair. Sadly, we will not...
Read moreWe booked a week in the houses (chateaus I think they call them) and so we basically took over two of them. We had a blast. There is a large field of grass behind the houses that we played a large game of baseball on. The only issue we had was with ourselves. We were kind of loud so we kept having to go inside and be quieter. I suggest coming when the weather is moderate since this place doesn't have air conditioning or heaters in the homes. Bedrooms were large. I believe they are the white brick walled rooms you see in the photos. Each house seems to have a little of its own character. The house I stayed in reminded me of 60's art deco style. The other house was your typical late 1970 stucco walls house you see in just about any housing tract in America. Across the street was a house in a very South American style.... All pretty cool. Restaurant on premises is good, but closes by 9pm. So don't expect to drink there all night. It is very close to the city and a cheap taxi ride so no problems there. This is a gated, patrolled community so you can feel safe with...
