The good:||Well priced for Mexico City. 350/450 pesos for private room with private bathroom.||Really friendly, helpful staff. Always saying hello with a smile and ready to help out with information. We needed some documents printed and they did it for us immediately, without any charge. The staff are outstanding. We stayed on two occasions for almost two weeks in total, and we were upgraded from a 350 peso room to a 450 peso room for every single one of those nights.||Convenient location. Right next to the Chabacano Metro station, which is at the junction of three lines and only a few stops from the zocalo. Supermarket and numerous street food stands within 2-3 minutes walk.||Clean. The shower curtain needed a scrub but other than that we were happy.||Breakfast of scrambled eggs (with ham or tomato or longaniza, depending on the day), refried beans, toast, coffee, orange juice, salsas. There was sometimes something else as well, such as sausages or chilaquiles. No issue for them to prepare a personal vegetarian friendly order of eggs only, when meat was included in the scrambled eggs.||On our last day we realised that guests can use the kitchen to cook, although I wouldn't recommend using it in the morning as you would probably get in the way of the breakfast preparation.||The room. Although there is some general city noise, it was nothing excessive and we slept well. There was plenty of light, a window that opened, and an insect screen. A ceiling fan ensured we stayed cool at night.||You can pay by credit card without any extra fee.||Luggage storage available.||Book through their website for the best deal.||||The not-so-good:||Shower takes quite a while to heat up, and extractor fan wasn't very effective.||A bath mat would make a world of difference for keeping the floor dry.||Shower curtain too small, and needed a clean.||We did laundry through them twice. They charge the same as surrounding laundromats. On the second occasion a couple of items came back with new stains on them (caused by some sort of...
Read moreThe hotel is right next to a metro station which is good, but the area seems a bit shady. When we first checked in, we were horrified by the room they gave us. It was super old, smelled very bad, the bed was broken. The bathroom had an even worse smell and made my friend nearly throw up. |They gave us another room, which looked better at first until we noticed the mold on the walls. Also, the people in the hostel are very loud at night and keep turning lights on and off so you can’t really sleep.|I’m allergic to mold so I got sick overnight too. Everytime we left the room and came back, the air was horrible and you couldn’t breathe. |The breakfast was good, but it was a very small portion and you’re not allowed to get more. Breakfast lady was very rude when we asked for another portion. |The only good thing about this was that the owner was super nice and friendly. He welcomed us with Tequila and was...
Read moreVery clean place with helpful staff. The dorm I stayed in had a ceiling fan and a private bathroom with shower (just need to be a little patient with hot water to start running). I was lucky enough to have the dorm room for myself and I slept very well. ||The owner Javier picked me up at the airport when I landed (300$ Mex), his English was very good. He gave me advice about security in the country as I’m traveling solo and he helped me with booking my transport to Oaxaca city. ||In the morning there was a big screen projecting the soccer World Cup. It was a fun atmosphere and a great setting for watching sports or movies. ||The dinner I had there was delicious and breakfast included was decent. I will definitely recommend to my friends to stay there and hopefully I’ll get to visit Mexico City next time I come. Javier has recommendations of things to do and see...
