Concierge was great. The spa was phenomenal. There are quite a few people employed here who have exceptional hospitality. Despite those facts, truthfully I would not recommend this hotel and personally would not return. I do feel 2.5 Stars would be adequate. These are the reasons why:
We got married in Puerto Vallarta as a result our family and friends wished to stay with us; therefore we searched for a family friendly hotel and Villa del Palmar Flamingos seemed to fit the bill. "Seemed to" because in actuality it is not as kid friendly as it makes it out to be. There were not many options for children except the beautiful pool and bad shows. Additionally, the pool has no swim up bar, what made up for that was Isabel who kept the drinks and food coming. There other thing is that it was advertised to have free WiFi when we booked, not true as there is a fee, making it even less kid friendly.
When we initially arrived it wasn't too busy but as soon as high season hit a few days later the hotel up and decides to paint throughout. The smell was atrocious and many of our wedding guests requested to be moved due to headaches. At this point they were overbooked, imagine renovating during high season when your overbooked. Mind blown!!! Some of our guests were placed in the sister property that houses retirees, again not the most family oriented option.
Like previously stated when we initially arrived it was pretty desolate which made dining a breeze. Once they were overbooked during peak season the service deteriorated by a long shot, they do not have the capability to run shop while overbooked or in high season. Our initial arrival we were told one restaurant was open, we arrived tired and hungry and were made to feel like we were bothering them. The gentleman repeatedly discouraged us from ordering, this should have been clear warning, we order pizza anyway. Later during the peak season my brother was told by the same staff to order room service to get pizza & room service told him no because he could still order it from the Italian restaurant that mind you refused him service; I can't fathom employing people who do not wish to do their job. The hotel falsely advertises 7 restaurants; they have 1 fully functioning one, Patron; another that operates 1:PM to 5:PM daily alternating between tacos one day and sushi the next; lastly the Italian restaurant serves finger foods and pizza during the day and in the evening it is a fully functioning restaurant. Needless to say dinner was a nightmare in peak season with long wait times and my mother-in-law fell ill from undercooked chicken. In my opinion a dinner buffet would have worked better for them.
At this point I'm making a turn to fully specialty foods as I have Celiac disease which means no gluten at all ever. Well suffice it to say I was glutened three times; we spoke to the head of Food & Beverage Operations as well as his assistant and came up with a protocol. Let's just say the fourth time I was glutened I didn't even bother contacting them. Clearly they're not able to handle food allergies.
My now husband's uncle was one of the guests who were moved from his room due to issues. In that move his shoes turned out missing and was basically told tough deal with it. The poor guy had to wear New Balance to our wedding and apologized to us profusely. We never moved room and had a brand new dress that was still in it's plastic wrapping go missing. This particular dress I was going to wear for family photos Monday morning, I noticed it was missing Sunday morning the day of our wedding from the drawer. As a side note I do get foggy brained when glutened so I figured I look for it thoroughly back in the states. I also didn't think it would help to report it missing considering what had been told to my husband's uncle; eventually though, his shoes were returned. Well a few weeks later and the dress never surfaced so yes it indeed went missing at the resort from our...
Read moreMy goodness. Where to start? I have traveled all over the world. On this particular trip. I flew down. With my eighty-one-year-old father. We booked two rooms at the Flamingos. My travel agent messed up on our booking. She had us in two different buildings. This was my father's first time in Mexico. We flew down to look for a place to live. He was very lost because of his wife for 30 years. My mother, I had passed away two years ago. I have been living in Mexico for 8 years and didn't want to stay up in Portland Oregon. The resort said that they didn't have two junior suites close to each other. And that we could do an upgrade. The upgrade was a little out of my budget. I was okay with that. They finished booking our rooms in two different buildings. Which was okay, they gave us our keys and my father went to his room. I want to mine. They had asked me a few questions about my father. I explained what was going on and how he felt so very lost. After losing the love of his life. I also explained why I brought him back to Mexico because I couldn't leave him by himself. And no sooner get to my room and the phone rings. I answer the phone. And the Butler Polo introduces himself over the phone and asks if he can come to my room. He had a message from the resort. I said sure Por qué no. We had left at 1 am in the morning. From Portland and we were extremely tired. Two minutes later I heard a knock knock on my door. Oh my goodness. Polo the Butler comes in and tells me Welcome to the Flamingos. We would like to offer you and your father a suite with an adjoining door at no extra charge. Would you like that? Yes, please. He asked to take my bags and off we went. He takes me back to the lobby, they give me keys to both rooms. I walk into the suite, and oh my god. Wow. I was very humbled by what they had done. Polo the Butler puts my bags down. I walk through the suite in total awe. The view is incredible. I unlocked the adjoining door. My father still doesn't know what is going on. He was unpacking his bags and looking around the junior suite. I tell Polo the Butler let's go see my father. We knock on his door. I introduce him to my father and they start talking. I let him talk for a few minutes and then I unlock his side of the adjoining door. He still doesn't know anything. I say, Dad, I hate to interrupt, but come here and look at this. I opened the door and said this is for you. You deserve this room for everything you've been through. It's time for you to enjoy the rest of your life. This is the start welcome. He could not believe everything this resort I had done. Still brings tears to my eyes seeing his face. Everything was perfect. Very clean. I have Nothing negative can be said about this resort in my opinion. Every good evening, the lady who cleans the rooms. Would come by and knock on the door and ask if we wanted a little treat. Her name is Susanna. We would practice Spanish and English for a couple of minutes. She is so sweet. The people who work at the front desk went above and beyond to make our stay as perfect as possible. The manager Orely is Amazing. And Jose is very friendly and fun to talk with. Honestly I can't say enough about The flamingos and everything they do. My trip was on September 25th. We stayed until October 3rd. They arranged our travel to and from the airport. Thanks again for making the new start of my father's life. Sv...
Read moreThis is more of a 3 star hotel than a 5 star. I recently stayed here for 8 nights and I don't think I will be returning. While the hotel was not horrible, I wouldn't recommend it.
The moment you arrive at the airport, the people at the transportation booth will start harassing you about attending the timeshare presentation. They are really aggressive and will use every trick possible to try to get you to attend. Luckily, the person who actually drove me to the hotel was really nice and didn't seem to be part of the whole scheme.
Reception- The staff are rude and have a hard time understanding what you are saying, even when spoken in Spanish. I was initially told check-in starts at 12 pm, then 3 pm by another person, and finally informed that my room would be ready by 5pm. They also tried to force one of my family members into purchasing a 4-day all-inclusive package, despite only staying with us for 3 days, treating us poorly when we refused.
Beach - Service at the beach was good, but they need more staff. Wait times for drinks and food were some times long due to limited personnel, though the attentive staff did a great job at taking orders and making sure we had everything we needed. They also have a large food menu and lounging chairs with umbrellas, which made it super comfortable for spending the day at the beach.
Pool - The pool is nice, specially if you have kids. It stays open really late, which is great if you want to go swimming after dinner or stay late at the pool. They have food options and multiple bars in the pool area. Only negative is that sometimes it's hard to find a spot since most people wake up early and put towels on the lounge chairs.
Restaurants (Service)- The Italian and grilled meats restaurants are outside and are uncovered. When it rains, which happened a lot during my stay, they only offer take out. Most of the staff were amazing but some were horrible. One of the staff didnt know I spoke Spanish and told my server to not go out of his way when we asked him to open some umbrellas for us when it started to rain. Service at the restaurants was inconsistent.
Food and Drinks (Quality) - The food quality was good, including room service available from 6 am to 12 am, which was amazing. However, the drinks were mediocre at best, often watery and not good.
Rooms- Rooms are very clean. The housekeepers do an amazing job at maintaining the rooms. However, the bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable, making it impossible to get rest during my stay.
Night Entertainment -The shows are just okay. They need better entertainment options for rainy nights. I attended a Michael Jackson show in the conference room that was poorly lit and had really bad sound quality. No drinks were offered during the show; you had to walk to the lobby and get wet to get your own drink. They just need to do better.
Overall, this hotel was just okay. I wouldn't stay here again and would not recommend it. Most of the staff are not service oriented and need more training. Again, if you are considering coming here, think more 3 star hotel at most. The price does not match what you are getting, and if you think you are staying at a 4 or 5 star hotel, you will be extremely...
