Beautiful stone building, extraordinary staff, an oasis perched above Oaxaca city. This hotel has been on my saved list for years and it did not disappoint. ||We stayed in La Canada room (roughly translated to canyon in Spanish). I had specially selected this room due to the private hot tub on the terrace. We did have to ask them to top it up to cover the jets (felt like that should’ve been done at this price point) but they quickly attended to it. This room is on the top floor over looking part of the city. It was exactly what I wanted for a special get away for my husband’s birthday. One morning we ordered breakfast to the room and loved that, beautiful views and a lovely in room breakfast. ||The onsite restaurant was fabulous, we even cancelled reservations at a fancy place in town for his birthday because we preferred the food and atmosphere of this gem. Their sourdough is incredibly delicious, we even pre ordered a loaf to take with us as we continued our journey; so sweet of them to accommodate. Their hot sauces are legendary - be very careful of the hotttst one :) ||Every staff member was incredible and kind and lovely. We had no issues communicating with them despite our limited Spanish.||The ingenuity in the rooms was fabulous, from storage to room separation.||The pool is small but deep and lovely for a cool off on a hot day, in fact one day we decided to just do that all day and we loved it, very comfortable and the lovely restaurant staff checked on us to see off we needed anything. ||The price is high. I can’t explain or justify quite why it’s so high but I can say we created beautiful memories here and really enjoyed our stay - sick a lovely place to come back after exploring - and we would stay there again . We loved the limited number of guests. They explain their rooms well, so choose carefully and select what is...
Read moreCasa Santo Origen is a one of a kind hotel. Upon first entering the hotel grounds, I was taken away by the landscape, architecture, and Spanish modern decor. If you’re looking for a place to relax away from the city noise and hustle, look no further. Between lounging by the pool during the day and then sitting by a fire a night, there is always a spot to comfortably sip your coffee or mezcal!
The Mediterranean food that the restaurant is refreshing, and exquisite. We enjoyed sampling tacos during the day in downtown Oaxaca, and then feasting on a wonderful filet or seafood paella at the hotel for dinner.
Also, I saw other reviews mention that the coffee at the hotel was not good. I couldn’t disagree more. There’s nothing I consumed at the restaurant that I wouldn’t recommend.
The staff is also very friendly. Guys like Jobe are welcoming and helpful. A good number of their staff speaks English, so don’t fret if your Spanish isn’t anywhere near fluent.
The only reason I gave the hotel 4 stars in my review is because I thought for the price you pay, the hotel perks could be enhanced. For instance, a turn down service would be a welcomed, expected addition. Or perhaps even a shuttle that runs a few times per day between San Felipe and the city center. Or a the happy hour before dinner with select drinks and snacks for guests to enjoy. Other 5 star hotels seem to have those luxurious amenities.
Nonetheless, I would return to Casa Santo Origen in...
Read moreWe were given a room next to the restaurant, if you want to sit outside at the balcony you are literally sitting next to one of the tables in the restaurants. To keep some privacy we closed the curtain the whole time and that is the only window in the room so basically we could not enough at all. Also it’s very noisy so you cannot rest. I have raised the issue to one of the staff, and got a reply of “only until 10pm every night and all the other rooms are similar”. Anyway we requested to change to another room but only available the next day. Moreover the shower temperature is not stable, during the shower it became super hot and cold suddenly. After googling we discovered another guest complained about the exact same thing as us one month ago. ||The hotel room also lacking basic stuff like kettle, fridge and wine glasses etc. Gym is not available at all.||The swimming pool is so small you can barely swim. ||Also the hotel is quite far from city so prepare to pay 200pesos each way. ||The staff for the guest services also have very limited English so we ordered the taxi several times and found out it wasn’t ordered. ||Also the hotel staff texted us on WhatsApp several times on WhatsApp in Spanish and we have been quite clear at the beginning we do not understand Spanish. ||Other than the stuff mentioned above, other staff are helpful and nice. But definitely overpriced...
