We had an amazing time at Bahia Príncipe Sian Ka’an in Mexico. This is our second stay here (2018) and it has not changed, great staff, atmosphere and food! Staying here allows you to use all 4 resorts, Tulum, Coba and Akumel. We knew this from a previous stay and their description obviously but some people don’t appreciate the distance and requirements of the golf cart/trolly to get around.
From the drop off we were met with smiles at check in, a cool refreshing towel and welcome Drink.
We had a such a great week and have to say the staff are outstanding at Sian Kaan. From the front desk which I will get to, the bar tenders, customer service, cleaning, maintenance and grounds staff. Excellent!
At the buffet located at the Sian, We sat mostly in Miriam’s section, she was wonderful! Very friendly and approachable. She had an amazing second waitress with her and they both worked extremely hard everyday. Santa made excellent omelettes and I am one to enjoy a custom omelette every morning on vacation and she was wonderful. We participated in the sunrise yoga most mornings. Sunrise is at 9am on the yoga schedule so not too early for everyone. Katia was the best yoga instructor we have ever had on a trip. She brought a lot of life to the resort and was very genuine. Silvero at Lux restaurant was great, strawberry weed salad recommendation! Steak, not bad. Would e checked the App and saw a charge we did not make. We went to the front desk after dinner and spoke Eldrik who was polite and helpful. A manager named Carmen showed up quickly the matter was resolved in minutes. Simple mix up of room numbers but glad it got sorted quickly. New Years was at the buffet was crazy. It was the hottest night of the week and I sweat through my crips white shirt before we even got to dinner. Logistically this whole evening is a nightmare so dinner was running late. Some nice options but this was by far our worst meal. We may have eaten or drank something earlier in the day that didn’t agree with us so by the time we had a couple espresso martinis in the heat we were toast. We both tried the lobster as we’re looking forward to it but it was way overdone, couldn’t even get it out of the tail. We ended up eating bread and butter partly for the way we felt but also due to not as many appetizing options as we expected. That day, we ate at the Tulum resort buffet and food truck. The food truck was awful, really disappointing food and simple food items but could have been what got us sick. Unfortunately, we spent that evening in our room and more specifically the bathroom! Some sleep and the next day we were fine some assumed some mild food poisoning. We had a fantastic meal at the Japanese Fusion restaurant called Maiko. Dolce vita Italian was really good too and both Juan and Jhovanny were awesome. Fun meal and great food. The power went out breifly for a few minutes but they all Handled it well. Chicken parm, pizza both good.
Also good was the Tapenyaki restaurant, steakhouse at Akumel beach side, Mexican restaurant Tequila was good and had a lot of buffet options. Margaritas were amazing! Churros unfortunately were not fresh anytime we wanted them so never got a soft one.
We had such a blast with some of the activities from the entertainment team. Specifically, Alfonso who was new to the job and had moved from closer to Mexico City. He was extremely kind and easy to chat with. Alberto was also super friendly, fun and always smiling.
They had karaoke after and the screen was not working for lyrics which made it challenging. Alfonso and sexy Delmar made the night fun despot the challenges and we honestly laughed all evening. Some terrible singers as karaoke is always 50/50 but Delmar could tour his own comedy act based on how he handled it all. We belly laughed all night and went home with sore cheeks.
The Origen show was truly spectacular and the best show we have ever seen at a resort. Highly recommend...

We recently spent a week at the Sian Ka’an Resort, and overall, it was a relaxing and enjoyable experience, though not without a few quirks.
Food & Dining: The main buffets were hit or miss—sometimes the selection and freshness were just okay, which seems to be a common sentiment among guests. However, we found a real gem in the 24-hour Cenote restaurant by the pool. The food there was always warm, fresh, and met our needs any time of day or night. The staff particularly Jesus, Constantine and Racheaal were very attentive and accommodating of our crew's requests for extra "bacon". FYI--- The best bacon at the resort is found at the Cenote Restaurant by the pool ! The resort’s à la carte restaurants were hard to book, and the staff weren’t always able to seat our group together, which was a disappointment. We also had some trouble with the app and Wi-Fi, which made booking even more frustrating. Booking the other restaurants was difficult as they were all full before we even arrived given the ability to reserve in 10 days in advance of your arrival. However, the App would not allow us to book in advance. We did manage to get a couple reservations, but it was difficult and took too much of our precious vacation time to arrange.
Rooms & Facilities: Our room was lovely and comfortable, with a peaceful patio perfect for reading and unwinding. Like other guests, we did notice a musty smell, likely due to the jungle setting and humidity. The buildings themselves are well-kept but starting to show their age; a fresh coat of paint and a power wash would go a long way. Still, the quiet, serene atmosphere and lush surroundings made for a restful stay. Yet, our outdoor spa tub did not work and we were disappointed we could not indulge in this luxury.
Beaches & Pools: We loved the adult-only beach and appreciated the exclusive, peaceful vibe. The pools were spacious, clean, and never felt crowded, with plenty of hammocks for relaxing. Getting to the beach requires a shuttle, but we found transport reliable and, importantly, accessible for wheelchairs—something we really valued. The transport crews were exceptionally helpful, making it easy for our group to get around.
Accessibility: Traveling with a wheelchair, we found the resort’s paths easy to navigate, and the shuttle service was fully equipped to accommodate us. This made a big difference in our overall comfort and enjoyment.
Service & Staff: Staff were generally friendly and helpful. A special shoutout goes to Roderique at the front concierge, who was always attentive and kind. The transport crews also went above and beyond for us. On the flip side, we found the staff at the jewelry and clothing stores less welcoming—the jewelry shop in particular used high-pressure sales tactics that felt out of place for the resort’s laid-back vibe.
Other Impressions: The spa was a highlight and well worth the extra cost. Evening entertainment was lively, but the music was so loud it was hard to enjoy, and at times, overwhelming. A unique touch: the bats that swoop through the lobby at night, keeping bugs at bay and adding a bit of natural charm.
Final Thoughts: We’ve stayed at Sian Ka’an before and would return, especially for the quiet atmosphere, adult-only amenities, and the option to visit other properties like Coba and Akumal. Next time, we’ll opt for private transport from the airport to maximize our time at the resort. The piña coladas and margaritas were top-notch! While there are areas for improvement—especially with booking systems, Wi-Fi, and some dining experiences—the resort’s tranquil setting, helpful staff, and accessibility make it a solid choice for a relaxing getaway in the Riviera Maya. Would recommend for adults seeking a peaceful, nature-filled escape, but be prepared for some minor inconveniences and aging...
Read moreHello Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an Resort TEAM!!! I missed you a lot, thank you for the amazing birthday trip, it is one for the books!!! Merci beaucoup!!! Positive things first: Mexican people are simply authentic, generous and extremely happy, we love you a lot!!
Riviera Maya location is a bit far away from Cancun airport/Playa Del Carmen area but super close to Tulum district. Period of 18-25 of May 2025 weather is 100%Sun guarantee - super hot.
Bahia Principe Resorts Best restaurants (super MEGA busy, you better booked 2 weeks prior arrival) French (Marco is the best server and the petit pois soup is kiss chef) , Peruvian (Jenny with the Gigantic and friendly's smile, she will make you the best Mezcal) Japanese (welcome drink is a chef Kiss, Italian (Welcome drink is kiss chef) and of course the actual food was excellent!!
Sian Ka'an staffing best by order: ISABEL, ISABEL, ISABEL she is the BEST human being, the day I arrived we were welcome with cold serviette and cheap champagne (nice gesture), I asked a room upgrade with Bath Tub, Isabel professionalism shined immediately, she went above/beyond to ensure I feel understood that I can visit the room first before paying, EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE +++++ and was for the rest of my trip ensuring the room flood was death with, my twisted ankle (ice) situation and for my birthday (the staff decorate my door w/white Wine) she is the best!! Armanda, Lorenzo, Rodrigo Erudi and all the housekeeping and cafeteria staff were amazing towards me, always with a small they made me feel welcome!!!
Sian Kaa'n Resort rooms are needed an extreme upgrade though, I had my toilet blocked with leaking water all over my penthouse room (the staff took their sweet and friendly time to come clean it up they are on Mexican time haha), the closet and bed style are old, I have not tried the pool in the resort coz I rather the beach and was busy with excursions lol, for above reasons, I will not come back to Sian Ka'an resort until renovation. I love the fact that all Bahia Principe resorts/amenities/restaurants are accessible thru your bracelet which is a great things.
To be able to visit other Resort, a public golf cart transportation is available, sometimes with a bit of wait but easy to visit all Bahia Resorts
Excursion Booked via Air Canada excursion with Mar (The best Energy you will find, very kind and professional)
Isla les Mujeres - be aware snorkeling activity depend on the mother nature, Tour Guide Antonio and crew were safe, gentle, chill and friendly, amazing hot day without snorkeling for me, (the ocean was not cooperating that day), a lot of taxi, man hustler to show you around for a high Price be careful but it is walkable if the sun is not too hot. The beach/playa is warm clear turquoise water w/white sand, the coconut water for 100 pesos is a must.
Chichi Itza Maya Temple - Tour Guide Luis and crew were super knowledgeable and friendly, be prepared to walk (good shoes, hat, water , etc.) Amazing structure, history, artisanal factory and cenote (cave) swimming activities.
CocoBongo - Night club with "Vega Shows/performers" with good music for a very "high price", I will not do it again too pricey for what it is, but had fun though.
Playa Del Carma - Day Beach - Booked with ARM agency Rodrigo of Akumal Resort (Such a nice guy speak multiple languages), a bit pricey for food and drink, lounge chair and parasol compare to Riviera Maya area but the Playa is turquoise w/white sand, amazing!!!
So overall, AIR CANADA Vacations was worth it but I will explore a different resort next time, Thank you Mexico, you...
