My husband and I rolled into Xiltla on our motorcycle with our puppy and stopped at Hotel Del Cafe. We bargained prices with the owner, and he gave us a great deal in his beautiful hotel. Alejandro, the owner was very very friendly and kind to us. He speaks both English and Spanish, making communication easy. He let us have our dog on site (he has a big friendly one as well) and he also let us park our motorcycle in his garage right next door to the hotel entrance. The hotel is built upwards, and we had no idea how big and beautiful it was until we left the lobby. There are rooms upstairs and down, each individually named and decorated. The outside area is amazing and covered with trees and bushes to make you feel like you are in the jungle and out of the city. This attracts all kinds of birds and butterflies which are fun to look at too. Our room was at the bottom of the stairs and was pretty large. The main room had a bed (comfy), chair, dresser, night tables, and a balcony. Above us was a loft with two extra twin beds, though we didn't use them. Downstairs was a very large bathroom with separate rooms for shower and toilet, and the main area had the sink. It was built around a large stone/rock which is part of the bathroom, and looks really cool. The bathroom had two, large clean towels and soap. There were plenty of windows both upstairs and down to keep everything well ventilated, as well as a ceiling fan. The hotel also has a kitchen on-site. An amazing home-made fresh breakfast is served each morning for 170 pesos for two people. The meal includes a lot of good coffee and milk, beans, and some type of main dish. The two meals we had were chicken tamales (amazing) and chilaquiles with scrambled eggs and bacon. I totally recommend spending the $4.50 per person because it is worth it. Right outside of the kitchen is a terrace area with a lot of tables and chairs. Very well kept and peaceful. You could also sit inside the nice kitchen area in the large dining room. The wi-fi on site didn't reach down to our room, but worked great on the terrace or in the main building. If it is an issue for you, I am sure you can ask for a room closer to the router. The hotel also has a hostel option, though we didn't see those rooms. It is also very homey feeling, with a large living room sitting area in the main house. Just a beautiful place overall. Everyone on staff was very friendly and helpful except one girl who works the front desk in the evenings. We didn't know if she was standoffish because we didn't speak good Spanish or if she as just in a bad mood. Thankfully the owner made up for this. A few other details: maid service each day, right int he center of town so close to laundry service, food places, and tiendas. We got pizza one night which was really good, and burritos the next from a place right down the street. Las Pozas is about 5-8 minute drive away from the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay at...
Read moreBuilt on the side of a steep slope, this hotel incrementally grew from the owners' home to a very nice hotel with rooms/casitas perched above the valley below. There is no elevator, so be prepared for lots of flights of stairs. The rooms themselves are very spacious, comfortable, and clean. The couple that owns it are very friendly and charming, with the husband (a biologist and ecologist) having a very extensive extensive library. There are common areas for relaxing and eating, and the breakfast was prepared using all local ingredients. The location of the hotel is about a 10 minute walk into the center of town, which gives you an opportunity to take in the local...
Read moreWe are bilingual and had called to ask if we could bring our small dog. We were told it was they had one unit availble for pets. When arriving we found the room to be at the bottom of 4 flights of stairs, very must, even mold on the mattress. The kind receptionist gave us a room next to the reception desk. The room was small but nice, however very noisy due to the location. When the owner found out we were staying there with our dog (very well behaved) he began to berate the poor girl in front of us, making feel quite unwelcome. The breakfast was good but rather expensive. Overall it's a nice garden and...
