I chose to stay at Nu Hotel because I was only in Veracruz for two nights, and I was arriving by bus, leaving by early bus, and taking the bus for a day trip to Tlacotalpan (!) so it was convenient. The bus station is across the road. ||I enjoy walking, so the 25 minute walk to the zocalo (15 to the malecon) wasn't an issue. If you don't want to walk, cabs are plentiful.||First impressions weren't great - a (minor) mix up over my booking, the lift wasn't working, the room was like a furnace, and there were kids in the 'swimming pool' making more noise than a school at break time. ||I didn't plan on staying in the room after checking in, so I wasn't too concerned about the racket (even with the window closed, the walls are like paper), but I was more than a bit annoyed that it was still going on when I got back at 9pm with the intention of having an early night. The parents didn't seem to care; neither did the hotel. They eventually disappeared around 10.15pm. Could have been worse I guess. Luckily they were gone the next day, and the whole place felt a lot better.||The 'swimming pool' is nothing more than a big bath. You couldn't swim in it if you tried. And you couldn't relax in it like a jacuzzi. The hotel's photos make it look like it's a nice, relaxing outside space, but it's tiny. You couldn't relax on a sun lounger if there was anyone in the pool. You'd get wet. And annoyed. It serves no purpose other than for kids to make a noise in!||Aside from the 'pool' problem, Nu Hotel is actually very good value:|- the room is spacious|- standard of cleaning was fine|- comfortable bed|- great hot shower|- wifi was okay, although it has a habit of freezing every now and then|- security safe|- effective (but noisy) aircon|- hot/cold drinking water on each floor ||There's a restaurant attached which looked inviting, and they also provide room service. But I didn't try the food, so I can't comment. ||In summary - don't choose Nu Hotel if you want a pool. And if there are no screaming kids there, you'll have a...
Read moreOverall its ok, because it's fairly cheap, the location is OK (not the best but ok). You can find much better deals in the center of Veracruz (better hotel and much better location). ||||Pool: I challenge anyone to swim in that pool. You can only fit 4-6 people. Its more of a Jacuzzi, but the Jacuzzi is not working. It was quite a deception when we arrived. The pool looks fairly big on the photos but they are misleading.||||Cleaningness: Its ok (for beds specially). But the sink was sticking and not clean. The towels are used and low quality. ||||Price: It is cheaper to book it there rather than on a booking site such as Booking. ||||Breakfast: Breakfast was not included, it was about 70 pesos per person for pancakes etc. But it was a very good breakfast. We saw other people ordering more traditional dishes and they also...
Read moreHotel Nu is right beside the bus station so it's very convenient for those who use bus travel like ourselves. This also means it's a little far from centro and the malecon. There are frequent buses to centro or you could walk like we often did which took about 30 minutes. The hotel itself is immaculate and very modern with all the facilities you would expect from a good hotel. It has spacious clean rooms, nice bedding and comfy beds. There is a small pool on the first floor which we didn't use. Wifi is reliable throughout the hotel. Room service is available from the downstairs cafe which makes tasty and well priced food, we ate there multiple times preferring the ambiance of the cafe to eating in our room (it's also a little cheaper this way). Overall we really liked this hotel and would...
