I visited this surf business at its previous location, and while the new venue may look more polished, the same serious issues remain. This review is for those, especially solo female travellers, who deserve to know what to expect.
At first, the experience feels warm and welcoming. I trusted the charm and the promise of community. But what I encountered was unsafe.
Yunus presents himself as friendly, but there’s a pattern of manipulation, blurred boundaries, and lack of accountability. During my stay, I became aware of a recurring issue involving female guests, where personal and professional boundaries were not respected. Several women have since shared similar experiences. In any setting involving trust and close contact, this behaviour is exploitative and inappropriate.
There were also clear safety failures. A male guest entered my private space while I was changing, with a camera in hand. The door had no lock. I reported it to Yunus, he did nothing. I also disclosed a past drowning trauma and requested support in the water. I received none. I had a panic attack on the beach, and again, no help was given. This was both negligent and dangerous.
I’m not a beginner surfer and have previously attended professionally run surf camps in Portugal. It was immediately clear to me that Yunus is self-taught and not a qualified surf instructor, something that may not be obvious to first-time guests. Guests are mainly taken to the whitewater, where conditions are relatively safe and predictable, particularly for someone like Yunus who surfs locally and knows the area well. This setup allows him to remain on the beach, where he gives a prep talk and occasionally calls out verbal cues, while guests, some with no prior experience, are left to navigate the waves on their own.
The sessions were disorganised, lacked structure, and clearly prioritised appearance over safety or genuine skill development. First-time surfers are often encouraged to keep trying until someone manages to stand up, at which point Yunus takes credit, and in the excitement and adrenaline of the moment, many beginners accept this at face value. Unfortunately, most are unaware of how little actual instruction they’ve received. More experienced or seasonal surfers typically choose not to surf with Yunus, as they quickly recognise the absence of proper teaching, in-water support, and professional standards.
Yunus also owes money and has ignored every opportunity to resolve the matter fairly. Many of the five-star reviews seem to come from his friends, family and close associates, which misleads new guests. The sudden closure of his previous venue also raises questions.
He is part of the Muslim community, and some may feel a sense of trust because of shared culture or values. But his actions, particularly the lack of integrity, accountability, and safety, do not reflect the principles this community presents.
This business may appear welcoming, but behind the charm is a pattern of dishonesty, exploitation, and serious safety risks. Please check all relevant details and exercise extreme caution, especially if you are a woman...
