Looks Nice in Photos, but Not Worth the Journey
I recently stayed at Azawad Luxury Camp as part of an organized tour, and while it may look like a beautiful place for photos, that's about all it offers. If you’re coming from Marrakech, brace yourself—this journey is an absolute ordeal. It feels like crossing all of Spain from Andalusia to Barcelona, with over 13 hours spent cramped inside a bus over the span of two days. By the time you arrive, you're exhausted.
Once we got there, we quickly dropped our things in the tents and went to eat. The meal, while edible, didn’t stand out at all, and they charge you extra for drinks, which is frustrating considering the cost of the whole experience.
Now, about the tents—they smell strongly of humidity. They may look picturesque, but it’s clear the fabrics are never cleaned, and the blankets have that same damp, musty odor. It really makes you wonder how often they wash anything, or if at all. The showers were also in poor condition, adding to the overall sense of neglect.
The following morning, we were up at 6 AM for a breakfast that consisted mostly of muffins and low-quality pastries. Nothing special to kick off yet another long day of travel. By 7 AM, we were back on the bus for another full day of driving.
In summary, this place is great if you want a few pretty pictures, but that’s about it. There's barely any time to relax and enjoy the surroundings, and between the long, exhausting journey and the issues with cleanliness, I can’t say it was worth it. Definitely not a...
Read moreNot value for the money. Travellers one. Drinking Water was a real issue there is none in the tent therefore they should have offered drinking water so we could take it back to our tent. The dinner meal was good. The tent room air conditioner did not work and it was 42 degrees Celsius or 104 Fahrenheit. When you're in the hot desert most of the day you want to come back to a room that had been cooled down no rooms we're cool down. You can only imagine how hot it was in that tent the sheets were hot and so was the sink. Breakfast there was literally no food. Yes of course the bread was there. However the big group that was there ate and took everything I was there at 6:45 a.m. I had no food and when I say no food I mean it, nothing, lacking coffee juice etc. and there was no one around working in the kitchen or in the dining area to make this comment or to get me something. I spent a lot of money to have my own tent and a nice evening with good food and a good start of food for my day this did not happen I cannot call this a luxury camp. They could have started the entertainment about 8:30 they started it so late and went into the night between 11:00 and 11:15 no one wants to hear all this music at that time of night when we need our...
Read moreWe stayed at Azawad for 2 nights in the riad and 2 nights at their Sahara desert camp, and the whole experience was just amazing.
The riad overlooks the Sahara dunes, which makes for such a beautiful view and a relaxing place to arrive before heading into the desert. There’s parking, a pool, and a restaurant that serves delicious food with vegetarian options.
Heading into the desert by quad was probably my favorite part, driving through the dunes at sunset felt magical, and we even stopped for sandboarding which was so much fun.
When we arrived at the camp, we were welcomed with tea and shown to our tent, which was stunning and very comfortable, complete with a private toilet, shower, and AC. After dinner, the Moroccan music around the campfire added so much to the atmosphere. And yes, even in the middle of the desert, there’s WiFi!
A visit to the Sahara is a must when traveling in Morocco, and Azawad made it the perfect experience from start to finish. Highly recommend doing the full package with both the riad and the...
