Whilst the E1 Motel is certainly cheap for Myanmar, I would rather have paid more for better accommodation. ||Firstly, the location is not ideal. We found that the vast majority of restaurants/bars in Mandalay were located near the southern wall of the Mandalay fortress. This was a 40 minute walk at least from the hotel. Taxis are cheap but annoying to do twice a day. Similarly, the immediate surroundings of the hotel can be described somewhat kindly as shabby. ||Secondly, our room (a private twin bed room for £15) was not very nice. When we first checked in it appeared to be clean, functional and relatively comfortable. However, we soon noticed it reeked of damp (not to mention an awful smell of cooking in the hallway) and was really noisy every night as the staff started cleaning extremely early. All beds have a strange plastic sheet under the bedding. Our bathroom drain also became blocked which caused our bathroom to flood - thus making the smell even worse. We were offered another room the next day without even an apology. The aircon worked fine in both rooms. To be fair, our new room for our final night was much nicer and smelled far better. We may have just been unlucky with our original room that we spent 3 nights in. ||The breakfast was mediocre. Untoasted bread with jam/butter served in a bowl. They also provided bananas. ||The higher level staff were not particularly friendly - simply stated "no" when we asked about laundry or if they knew where we could do some. The lower level staff were much more helpful. ||Overall I would rather have paid a few dollars more and found another hotel in a...
Read moreArriving at the Motel we didn't know what to expect after we were dropped off along the bumpy busy back street road. However we were greeted by smiles and accommodating staff. ||The rooms are basic and breakfast too. The twin room we had was airy and beds aren't the comfiest by they are a good size! ||The shared toilet and bathroom are small but are however clean. ||It's near to a local buffet restaurant which is called Golden Shan, many of the locals eat there too, which must mean it's good! ||The ladies on the front desk helped us book taxis, they aren't the cheapest but they are reliable and a comfy ride for the roads they travel on. |||However for the price we paid we think this Motel was a really good find! ||The boys on the front are all happy and rush to open the door for you which is lovely!! ||Definitely recommend for backpackers who want...
Read moreStayed here for 3 nights and liked it a lot. The room was clean and the shared bathroom was clean. ||Staff are so friendly and all have a great sense of humour. They will help you with any queries - I asked them so many questions. ||The only negative is the rubbish breakfast. It’s just sweet bread with butter and 3in1 coffee. Luckily there are plenty of good food options in the area and if you hire a motorbike through their guy, he’s so lovely he’ll take you to a really good Burmese restaurant, all you can eat rice with curry and veg...
