I had not researched a place to stay in Nyaungshwe, this was about 300m from where the bus stopped and at 5:30am, i did not feel like looking at other options. It turned out to be a good thing, the rooms were cheap and basic but had large and comfortable beds. Water pressure was not great but the heaters worked. Wifi worked well but sometimes cut off. ||||The hotel itself is a corner from the jetty where the boats are. It's not a great advantage as most of the hotels in the area are within walking distance to where the boats are situated, but it helps. The best thing about this place was the genuinely helpful and friendly staff, always at the ready to provide information on how to get around or when the next bus departs to whatever destination you want to go to. I found that they provided cheaper prices for the bus from Nyaungshwe to Yangon than the actual bus company itself. Another good thing about this hotel. ||||There are also plenty of good restaurants in the immediate vicinity so there is no need to walk or bike too far to get good food. The only downside is that this is located next to the main thoroughfare so it can get quite busy and noisy at times. Another consequence is that it's always dusty and you see the staff in the lobby frequently clearing the dust that gathers on the furniture as a result. ||||Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this place. I'm glad I did not do much research on the area or I might have gone for something else. Definitely...
Read moreWe stayed at Golden Dreams for 2 nights and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Myanmar. The hotel is very comfortable, had everything we needed and the staff were incredible - so friendly and helpful with everything we needed. The location is perfect if arriving on the night bus as it's only a few minutes away, the staff allowed us to check in when we arrived very early in the morning so we could some extra sleep! They then booked a boat trip to Lake Inle that was fantastic value for money for the whole day and I'd highly recommend doing the special trip to include Indean village. Our captain even hurt himself but insisted on continuing the trip to ensure we got to see everything despite us saying to go home so he could be treated! The hotel is excellent value for money and they even let us stay for longer and check out later on the last day as we were getting another night bus - stay here for a fantastic Lake...
Read moreThe Golden Dream Hotel is a thrifty (but selective) traveler's dream. The hotel price is affordable and comparable to many other places in the area. The location is perfect and the rooms are very clean. As another reviewer mentioned, the lobby is a bit dusty - as the doors open to a bustling dirt road, but it was a comfortable meeting place for our party. The staff was amazing. The front desk made great recommendations and the breakfast servers were extremely friendly. They took the time to explain all the items in the complimentary breakfast buffet. I learned that my life needs more mohinga for breakfast. The bathrooms were the only indicator of a budget hotel. It was a bit outdated for western standard, but it was clean and spacious. I definitely preferred having a bathtub with a handheld shower than an open standing shower. Overall, I'd definitely stay here again and recommend...
