Found a hotel in Yangon that suits my quirky sensibility to a “T” – the Hotel Yno in the Tamwee section of the city. ||I’ve tried a few lodging venues around Yangon this last year. For 5 years I used to frequent Fame Hotel on Po Sein Road near scenic Kandawgyi Lake, though this last year management remodeled the rooms making them about half the size they were and raised the room rates. ||A couple of times I stayed at Uptown Hotel due to its proximity to the Bowling Alley across the thoroughfare; but after the crippling bowling workout my ancient body suffered two months ago I stopped bowling; no more for me. ||Six years ago a rented a pleasant house in the Tamwee area of Yangon and thoroughly enjoyed the neighborhood so I checked on line for hotels situated in those environs. Saw the ad for Hotel Yno and decided to give it a shot. ||First off it’s more economical than Fame or Uptown by a few bucks – half the price of Uptown for more or less the same quality room and so-called complimentary breakfast. But for me it location is superb; within a short walking distance to a cinema, two supermarkets, a bustling outdoor, farmers’ market and at least two halfway decent disco-nightspots for entertainment and possibly companionship. ||The rooms aren’t palatial though not cramped either and have all the amenities travelers look for: speedy wifi, cable TV and hot water shower. The staff is particularly affable and helpful. ||I travel from where I work in Taunggyi to Yangon every two months, I glad I stumbled upon Hotel Yno it is now the...
Read moreAn average hotel that is nothing to get overly excited about. In the middle of a neighbourhood which is rather quiet and friendly. Close to the train station to use the Yangon circle service which is nice. ||The room wasnt too bad, nothing special but it was simple. Bed was comfortable and the pillow wasnt too bad and comfortable. Plenty of mosquitoes so you need to close the bathroom when in the room as the come through there.||Staff were not overly helpful and the grasp of basic english was quite poor. While very forgivable out on the streets of Yangon, but in the service industry this is a liitle on the poor side. Especially with simple requests unable to be met due to not understanding.||Bathroom facilities were fine and the shower was nice, bear in mind to bring your own toilet paper if you are not a fan of the toilet hose.||Internet was fine on the first night but was severely slow and continuously cutting out and...
Read moreThe location and neighborhood is not great. It's far from Downtown, the main attractions and interesting sights. There is a new mall at 10 minutes by walk where you can find a food court and new supermarket.||||The hotel itself seems very old fashioned but quite clean and the staff is helpful. We used their laundry service and it costed us 3,800 kyats for at leat 11 underpants, 5 tshirts, socks, etc. It took less than a day and our clothes smell good.||||Another annoying point is the presence of mosquitoes. There are a lot, in the corridor, in the bed room.||||If you're planning to visit with a driver and a guide, I suppose it's ok. If you want to walk and visit by yourself, choose a...
