Nestled in the windswept landscape of the Kali Gandaki valley, Hotel Dancing Yak in Jomsom is more than just a place to rest—it is a living tribute to the cultural soul of Mustang. Rooted in authenticity, the hotel offers guests an immersive experience into the heart of Himalayan heritage, hospitality, and healing.
Founded by the legendary late Amchi Tsampa Ngawang, a revered Tibetan doctor and cultural guardian, the hotel still carries the gentle wisdom of its visionary founder. Today, it thrives under the care of his son, Amchi Tsewang, who continues his father’s legacy not only in traditional healing but in preserving the unique traditions of the region.
From the moment you step into the Dancing Yak, you are greeted by handcrafted wooden décor, traditional Tibetan paintings, and the warm scent of juniper incense. The ambiance is humble yet full of depth—each detail telling a story of Mustang’s deep-rooted spiritual and cultural history.
The restaurant is a standout feature—more than a dining space, it’s a celebration of local flavors and medicinal Himalayan herbs. Whether you’re enjoying a hearty bowl of thukpa, a plate of momos, or sipping herbal tea prepared with ingredients sourced from the mountains, every meal is nourishing, both physically and spiritually.
What makes the Dancing Yak truly unforgettable is its commitment to well-being, storytelling, and respect for nature. Conversations with Amchi Tsewang often turn into lessons in traditional medicine, local lore, or the delicate balance between modern tourism and cultural preservation.
In a rapidly changing world, Hotel Dancing Yak remains grounded—an anchor for travelers seeking connection, healing, and truth. Whether you’re a pilgrim, trekker, or cultural explorer, your stay here will leave you with more than memories; it will leave you with insight, peace,...
Read moreWe stayed in Dancing Yak 2 times during our holidays. The location is great, bus from and to Pokhara and airport is just few meters away, as well as hiking trails for Dhumba village and lake or Lupra village or the beautiful surrounding areas. The family owned hotel has a very cosy feeling, the room with ensuite bathroom was clean, has very comfortable beds and duvets and even a really nice view even from the toilet. The home made fresh food is really tasty. Tsewang the owner is a great person, a Himalayan medicine doctor that also runs his family clinic that existed over 10 generations. He is a great communicator, proactive, full of knowledge and always happy to help. I highly recommend this place. I would love to come back in the future to see the hotel decorated with Tsewang...
Read moreI wish I can put zero star. We stayed one night at the hotel. They have the bus driver and conductor will manipulate people to stay there. They charged us 2500 npr for 2 rooms. When was leaving I gave her 3000 NPR, she refuse to give me back my change. She said we were supposed to by food from them so she cannot give back my change. What a rip off. First of all there is no hot water. The hotel seem like it is falling apart. In the room they give me, they hang a sheet over the ceiling to collect the debri. Don't stay at this hotel you will curse your self for not listing to my warning. You will set your self up...
