The room are okay, we choose the cheaper one for 500rupees. Everything is fine, also I wish they would clean the toilets more regularly (we stayed here for 2 nights and the toilet bins hasn't been cleaned once). The problem for us was the service. When we checked in we asked if we could eat some cake at their bakery. They told us their bakery wasn't open yet, but there were others in Gokyo (we stayed here during the end of March, but because it isn't high season yet their bakery is closed). So today after our trek to Gokyo Ri we checked out another bakery in town and ate some cake and drank some hot chocolate. The evening before we ate for roughly 5000rupees at our lodge. As soon as we came back from the bakery they let us know that room charges would go up because we ate outside. I think that is ridiculous. We didn't have lunch or diner or breakfast elsewhere, just some cake because their bakery (we would have eaten here of course, if the bakery they so biggly advertise outside their lodge would actually be open) isn't open. Worst experience ever, stay anywhere else but here!! Edit: the response is unprofessional. We ate cake at the German bakery here in Gokyo, twice. One yesterday after arriving and ocne today after completing Gokyo Ri. We ate cake elsewhere, because their bakery was closed. We didn't have lunch or breakfast elsewhere. And we ate all our dinners here, each for 5000 rupees. So in total we left 10,000 rupees at this lodge for food. So we did leave our money here at this lodge. I think its crazy, that this lodge watches you eat cake elsewhere and then makes a big drama out of it (even though they don't offer cake, so they don't miss out. We couldn't have bought the cake here. We even made it clear during check in that we wanted to eat cake and would check out the German bakery after learning that their bakery was still closed, and they didn't say anything then). Won't come...
Read moreWords cannot express the gratitude I have for the people -- Sonam and Bunny, who we worked the most closely with -- of Gokyo Resort. My boyfriend was having an issue with breathing, and upon even a breath of mention of this to the management, they were flying into action getting a pulse oxygen tester, and hooking him up to supplemental oxygen. My partner is a very strong young man and has worked as a guide at high altitudes, so we never expected this to happen on our trek, but it did, and there is no where else I would have rather been than Gokyo Resort. The staff made room calls to assist us so I didn't have to leave Brad's side, complete with delivering food and warm water, they helped us secure a helicopter rescue and even checked on he and I in the middle of the night to ensure stable health. No patient is an easy one, it seems, and especially when there are issues as serious as these ones, but the staff were patient with my boyfriend when he needed it the most. They communicated with my boyfriend's mother in regards to health insurance, made sure we had working wifi to communicate with family and hot showers even when things were frozen, and were around-the-clock supportive until we could make a safe exit off the mountains. They continued to keep in touch with us after we made it back to Lukla to ensure my partner's health. My heart will never be the same after witnessing such kindness and care of the people who I know, for certain, we will be back to see one day. Thank you so incredibly much to the people of Gokyo Resort for handling us with such love and care for such an unexpected, trek-stopping emergency, and we will forever sing the praises of Gokyo Resort.
AND, the FOOD, the beds, the comfort, the showers, and every amenity included in their booking made for the most comfortable night we had on the trail so far; it was hard to leave in more ways than one. A million stars for...
