The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. After 16 days on the EBC/3 passes trail (13 days without shower) this was place a mind spa of relaxation and comfort.
Thanka Lodge is in a class of its own on the 3 passes/EBC trek. This place is heads and shoulders above other lodges you will find on the trek. Yes, it's more expensive but the thought and love that Pasang has put into this place is next level! The food is amazing. Best Veg momos and sauce I've had in Nepal. The cook is great.
The little things around the lodge are just brilliant. There is a free oxygen/heart rate meter, scales for weighing your pack, scales for seeing how much weight you have lost, free sun screen, day packs in all the bedrooms for everyone to use, Pasang gives random free sound healings in the front room overlooking the lake, the toilets are spotless and smell divine, there are towels for wiping the toilet seat, the bedrooms are wonderfully designed with amazing beds, the rooms are insulated. The shower is really hot and has good power in a cute room. This lodge is simply amazing. A credit to Pasang for making a wonderful lodge with so much thought.
Treat yourself. It's absolutely worth it! Amazing coffee too😍😍and don't miss the Sherpa...
Read moreAs far as accommodations go in the Khumbu, this place has to be among the best. It's clean, comfortable and WARM. The windows are double-paned, and there is heat piped into the room from the hearth in the common room. After freezing for days, it was nice to be able to walk around indoors without all of my winter gear on. Pasang and his staff were great and very hospitable. The place has a lot of character, too, and features small art gallery displaying the work of local artists, which was very cool.
The only area for improvement that I should note: My guide mentioned after my stay that the porters' shelter at Thanka is a bit less comfortable than at other teahouses in the region, and that the porters sleep in a communal dormitory instead of in individual rooms. The trekker portion of the property is so lovely, and I think management should work on extending that to the porters' quarters. I'm sure most trekkers would be happy to pay a slight premium to make sure their guides are...
Read moreDuring our Everest Base Camp trek, Thanka Inn in Gokyo stood out as the best tea house we stayed in—more than just a fine hotel, it was a haven of comfort and warmth in the high Himalayas. Every detail is meticulously arranged, making it exceptionally clean and well-organized down to the tiniest aspects. The owner, Pasang Lama, is always present, ensuring everything runs smoothly with a calculated and thoughtful approach.
The location is unbeatable, bordering Gokyo Lake and offering breathtaking lake views right from the bedroom. Waking up to the sight of the turquoise waters surrounded by towering peaks is an unforgettable experience. The quality of food is remarkable, with warm, hearty meals that are perfect for replenishing energy after long trekking days. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the warmth—both literal and in terms of hospitality—makes it feel like a home away from home.
For anyone trekking in the Everest region, Thanka Inn isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an...
