Liked: The pitch: all pitches seemed spacious and were well kept with neat hedges, cut grass, paved pathways and access to play areas or space for kicking a ball, badminton etc. Toilet blocks: really well appointed with toilet roll, soap and hand towels as well as a hairdryer. They were kept very clean and there was no restriction on shower length. There were also excellent dish-washing facilities and a marvellous baby changing and baby bathing area and one of the best disabled toilet /shower rooms I've ever seen, including a hoist. Staff: very efficient and friendly. On our first night we arrived tired after a very long drive and after check-in time which closed at 4 pm. We had been phoned and recieved an email en route with instructions on self -check in which is very easy. On arrival our neighbours in the next field were playing fairly loud music with a hefty base beat and we enquired by phone about the possibity of moving pitch before we started setting up. A staff member was out within minutes and very diplomatically sorted the issue with a simple word on either side of the hedge 🤦♀️.Music went off and life went on- we even enjoyed their singing later! Fabulous area: Hired bikes and explored a nearby nature reserve. Great open air museum 20 mins drive away. 3.5km forest path on the edge of the Parc itself. Pool looked clean, medium size. We never got to use it. Small petting zoo looked well cared for. Great variety of accomodation and layout excellent. A lot of privacy. Loads of beautiful trees everywher and birds all around!
Disliked: Restaurant was spacious and staff lovely, but the menu seemed a little restricted and we couldn't order a pizza (we were told pizza was only available for children in the restaurant, though I think we could have ordered one for takeaway). However the food we did eat was nice.
For tent campers like ourselves it might be a good idea to have a small freezer/fridge available, but the reception staff took our ice packs and froze them for us and that was really helpful for onward travel.
Site map given to us was all in Dutch (Google translate helped!). It wasn't obvious to us where the main waste or recycling area was. There was a small bin for food waste and general/other waste in the dish washing area. The site was really spotless overall though, and no evidence of discarded...
We stayed at Camping de Wije Werelt twice while travelling from Norway to Belgium (at the end of June and middle of July). To us, it is the best Ardoer camping we have done so far. The staff is very friendly, both in reception, the shop (which has a good choice of roles) and in the restaurant (which also has a take away menu). Even during high season the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. ||The first time we stayed in the newly built Van Gogh cabin, inspired by the painter, which can be rented for two days. We noticed a rendition of one of his paintings next to the front door and the shower walls with large Van Gogh paintings, but also details like beer mats with illustrations from the painter and the excellent blond Van Gogh beer! According to the information booklet in a few years’ time there should even be growing sun flowers on top of the cabin. The second time we stayed in the Geurt, which is a cabin without any luxury, apart from two good (but not very long…) bunk beds on each side of the cabin and a table with four chairs in the middle. There is electricity (light and possibility to charge phone etc.). The cabin can be rented for a day. Both cabins are at the end of the park in a quiet area of the camping site close to the woods. ||Both times we rented cycles (€31 for two adults and two children) for the day and used them to cycle on very nice paths in the woods/heath during the day and restaurants in the area during the evening. The reception provides...
Read moreIt's a really well maintained park, really pretty in fact. Lots of greenery and surrounded by wooded areas, open fields and a stone's throw away from the national park. The swimming pool area was lovely, well maintained and clean - my 4 year old loved the kids pool and entertained himself for ages. The big pool was, even when busy, really nice and had plenty of space. The main playground (there are quite a few smaller ones dotted around) is really good for 3+ year olds I'd say, again my 4 year old loved it as he did the soft play (which was surprisingly really good, better even than some we've paid for in the UK). We also have a 1 year old who isn't walking and there was an awful lots for her to do, but for older children there are loads. Shop prices, take-away prices and restaurant prices are fair and the food is good. The staff were awesome - everyone we spoke to spoke fantastic English, were incredibly friendly and really helpful. Location wise, 25 minute walk into Otterlo (a pretty little village with good amenities - e.g. Spar, bike hire) and a 30 minute walk to the National Park entrance, 5ish minutes walk to the bus stop that goes to Arnham (20 minutes, €3 euros one-way for an adult), short drive to supermarkets and 15 minutrs to Burgers Zoo (highly recommend). Overall, would recommend this Europarcs, it has a lot to offer for a week or so, in a great location close to lots of things to do, clean with friendly staff. Can't and won't complain...
