The ThwART HOTEL ROTTERDAM Thwart verb. Definition: “to stop something from happening or someone from doing something”
I usually do not approve of 1-star reviews and poor ratings based on a single issue. However, the issue that my companion and I experienced was so INEXCUSABLE, it completely overshadowed any other consideration about the hotel. This one GRIEVOUS PROBLEM really did THWART myself and my companion from having a stress-free, straightforward and uncomplicated hotel experience.
The very first thing we did in the hotel was check in. This process required the scanning of our passports, assumably for the hotel to verify our identity. Consequently, the staff at the hotel had our photocopies of our identification. The next day, we were denied access of our room. After a lengthy wait for the manager at reception, he proclaimed that we had not checked in or paid for our room. Obviously, we had checked in the previous day and paid for our room in advance, therefore, we urged the manager to recheck as there had clearly been an error. However, the manager emerged as extremely SELF-RIGHTEOUS and INTRANSIGENT. My companion IMPLORED the manager to reverify the reservation and rectify the error, but to no avail.
It got to the point where the hotel staff was not taking responsibility for the problem or even attempting to recheck the booking themselves to see if they had made a mistake, therefore, my companion had to take matters into his OWN HANDS. Due to the hotel had no awareness of the payment, my companion had to show the manager the online banking app on his mobile phone to prove that payment had already been made. Following that, my companion demanded to see the computer screen at the reception area and be shown the hotel booking system in attempt to resolve the fault with the room reservation.
After my companion insisted on inspecting the hotel booking system with the manager, going through multiple pages, it transpired that the hotel, somehow, managed to book the name of my companion under “Roger Johnson” – which is NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE to his actual name. Therefore, the reason why hotel was so adamant that we had not checked in or paid due to their supposition of my companion being known as a completely dissimilar name. It is INCOMPREHENSIBLE how they could possibly get the wrong name, especially after having photocopies of our passports containing our NAMES AND IDENTIFICATION. Furthermore, and most infuriatingly, my companion had to be THE ONE TO IDENTIFY THIS ERROR on the hotel’s OWN booking system from THEIR OWN computer, as opposed to the manager or any of the staff.
This all could have been prevented if the hotel staff took did not have so much OBDURACY and took responsibility for the problem by making the effort to check the booking properly from the beginning. If my companion had not fought RELENTLESSLY to prove we had a booking and had not beseeched an inspection of the booking system as well as pointed out this FATAL ERROR, we would have been in dire straits. Let’s not forget the fact that my companion, someone who is not familiar with the hotel booking system, was the one to notice and rectify the fault instead of the manager or receptionists. Completely LUDICROUS and ATROCIOUS.
Subsequently, the manager showed absolute IMPERTINENCE; he never admitted it was an mistake on his part or the hotel nor offer any apology – he only stated that it was “not our fault”. He came across utterly OBSTINATE by initially assuming we were accountable and for being unwilling to check the booking properly from the start. This situation was completely avoidable if things were done appropriately. The whole process, led by an INADEQUATE and INEPT manager, was TORTUROUS and it should NEVER occur in a hotel...
The hotel is very bad. The last time in the room was only a chair instead of a couch. This time I sent them before that I would be at the hotel at 8 o'clock in the morning and yet they let me wait two hours. They claimed that there was no empty space. Then I took two keys as we were two people, one of them did not work. In the room the windows were very dirty. No air conditioning. There are no dishes, no spoons, no knives in the kitchen. The next morning one of them opened the door directly. She said, clean (she opened the door without waiting a moment). This is the last time I come here. I would not recommend it at all.

The bar staff, breakfast, and the restaurant are extremely welcoming and of very high quality. The rooms are good for the price.
I spent 6 nights in this hotel, I come from Switzerland to enjoy the city and the surroundings of my vacation.
One night the reception refused me at 11 p.m. the arrival of a visitor, they prohibited the latter from entering the hotel for no reason, I asked with all my respect if it was possible to pay extra or something to fix this, nothing to do. I'm put out tonight with my friend. I had to pay for a room in another hotel to enjoy my friend's arrival. The next day I come back to the hotel, I have my room pay, I forget this story… I try.
doesn't matter,
One morning someone wakes me up in taps at my door, I open, there were 5 police officers with a woman from the reception and another girl. It shoc and troma me. The girl told the ploliciers "no no no it's not him at all", and the staff left without giving me any word of apology or anything, not even a hello, no explanation.
Finally, this morning, my last day, I ask a staff lady to notify the reception that I want to stay one more night to take my plane tomorrow.
At noon a "manager" enters my room without warning, I was without underwear She asked me to get off immediately to pay the next night, quickly No excuse about seeing me without clothes. A troma again, I make my fast for go reception to pay the next night, in this 5 minutes , I have receive 2 calls on the phone in my room to ask me to go down and pay "NOW". Without polite formula and I remind you that this is my sixth night with all my expenses to pay, moreover I am a respectful Swiss customer with no invoice just a request for an extension of one night. I give each time give tips to the bar or waiter or reception at each payment of anything during my stay.
Anyway , I go down to the reception and ask if I can go and make an exchange to exchange my CHF for €, the room costs 99€, I offer 500chf (+-600€) deposit to prove my good jus the time I go to make an exchange in €. They told me if I can't pay in € now I have to leave the hotel. for finish The staff then put me out. Impossible to book an other night .
