Review for Coffee Shop New York – Rotterdam
The place itself is one of the best: wide selection, top-quality products, and a well-organized environment. Nothing to complain about when it comes to the shop — really impressive.
Unfortunately, the only downside was the absurd and aggressive behavior of one so-called “security guard” (if he can even be called that).
After I made my purchase, I stepped outside to roll a joint. Suddenly, this guy approaches me — no courtesy, no explanation — and just says in a threatening tone: “You have one minute to leave, or you’ll see what happens.”
I’m a peaceful person, never looking for trouble, but this kind of unnecessary intimidation is unacceptable. I calmly replied: “Call whoever you want. What are you going to do? Kill me?” And he answered: “You’ll see.”
I walked away and finished rolling elsewhere. Later, I passed by again and he came up to me aggressively saying: “You can’t walk here, get out!” I asked: “Why not? What are you going to do, kill me? What exactly are you planning to do?” He then muttered: “Okay, stay here,” grabbed his phone, started typing nervously on WhatsApp, his hands shaking, and sat down without saying anything else. End of his little performance.
⸻
Bottom line: his behavior was unprofessional, unnecessary, and completely disrespectful. Trying to act tough with no real authority or presence.
Short description: short guy, round build, with no real confidence — the type who would later apologize in a supermarket saying, “Sorry, I was having a bad day.” Classic.
⸻
🔁 My advice to the management: replace the security. The shop deserves a staff that matches its quality.
💥 Shop and products: excellent
I want to highlight the excellent behavior of the cashier — a young man (possibly of African descent) with long curly hair. He was extremely polite, professional, and welcoming. His attitude made the whole experience smoother and more pleasant. Truly a great example of how customer service should be.
There should be more people like him on the team, instead of individuals who completely lack respect and have no idea how to interact with customers.
As someone of North African background myself, I want to make it clear: this is not about ethnicity, but about attitude and behavior. The so-called “security guard” I dealt with showed nothing but arrogance and a total lack of professionalism. People like that don’t represent any culture — they just act out of ego and disrespect. Frankly, they have no place in customer-facing roles.
One raises the reputation of the shop, the other ruins it.
✅ Cashier – Outstanding service, respectful, 10/10 ❌ Security – Aggressive, unqualified, a disgrace...
Read moreI visited Coffeeshop New York in Rotterdam recently, and overall I had a very good experience. It’s not the fanciest place in town, but it delivers where it matters: solid product, fair prices, and a relaxed atmosphere.
Location & Vibe The shop is easy to find and has a straightforward, no-nonsense setup. Inside it’s clean and organized, with a laid-back New York theme. It’s not a big “hangout” style coffeeshop — more of a place to pick up what you need and enjoy it elsewhere — but it still feels welcoming. I never felt rushed or uncomfortable while inside.
Menu & Quality The menu is pretty diverse, with both classic strains and newer Cali varieties. The quality of most of what I tried was good: fresh, aromatic, and well-presented. Prices are fair compared to other Rotterdam coffeeshops, and you get decent value for your money. Some reviews online mention inconsistency, and I can see that being possible, but my visit was solid. Definitely worth asking to see or smell before buying, just to be sure.
Service Staff were friendly and professional when I visited. They gave advice without being pushy, which I appreciated. That said, I’ve read (and heard from others) that service can depend on who’s behind the counter that day — sometimes excellent, sometimes just okay. My experience was on the positive side.
Security & Atmosphere Outside One thing to note is that there’s usually a security guard present. Personally, I didn’t have any issues, but a few people seem to have had awkward interactions here. The guard outside does make the place feel safe, but at times the vibe could come across as a bit strict. Inside, though, it’s relaxed and straightforward.
Food & Drinks This is more of a purchase-and-go coffeeshop, so don’t expect a big café menu. They do offer the basics, and everything I tried was decent. But if you’re looking for a coffeeshop with an extensive lounge menu, this isn’t that type of place.
Tips for Visiting • Best to visit during quieter hours if you want more personal service. • Cash is easiest here, even though card might sometimes be accepted. • The area outside can feel a bit busy, so plan your visit accordingly.
Final Verdict Coffeeshop New York isn’t the flashiest coffeeshop in Rotterdam, but it’s reliable, affordable, and friendly. The quality of the weed is generally good, the prices are reasonable, and the staff treat you with respect. If you’re looking for a chill, no-drama spot to pick up and go, this is a solid choice.
I’d happily come back, especially for the variety and the straightforward vibe. Just keep in mind it’s not a “sit and smoke all day” type of shop, but more of a good,...
Read moreUsually very, very good. Recently they've been selling weed sprayed with some kind of chemical to make it smell more like "gas". One specific strain affected is the one with Snoop in the name.
I don't believe it's new York spraying them, but from someone they buy it from. The quality control can slip through sometimes, but 90% of the time, the weed from here is good.
Usually I ask to smell, but because I trust New York I didn't ask to smell the Snoop strain, but you can instantly smell the chemical bug spray on the buds.
I'm posting this because I don't speak good Dutch and it would be difficult/awkward to tell this at the store in person. So hopefully they can see this, check their stuff and I can adjust my review in...
