Opononi Hotel Limited — Hotel in Kaikohe-Hokianga Community

We arrived on the 27th of November a Sunday and decided to stay two nights. The lady at the reception on duty was just very nice friendly and the accommodation we got was just super. We got a little house. with a good kitchen and two bed rooms and a main room. We had a very good service men for the diner in a very relaxed quite atmosphere at tables covered in white. A good entrée, followed by a very good fillet on a hot stone and two bottles of read wine was a marvelous diner experience. It was just super. Thank you. BUT

The bad surprise followed next morning. The breakfast was served badly and not as good as we expected. In the evening we wanted to take another great diner at the same diner room. But it was just closed without informing us prior. We where told to go to the bar where a very rude lady was on duty. We could just order a pizza because the nice diner card from the evening before was not available at the bar. When it was served we asked for a knife and a fork. We where then told to catch it our self from the bar. Very arrogant this bar maid. The pizza was just as bad as the service was.

If you are looking for a place to eat while on the road- this is not the place for you.

This place, is absolutely terrible. Everything about this place is terrible- besides the beautiful location.

The food is average, and prices like a 5 star restaurant. The pizzas are absolutely terrible. You’re talking $19.50 for a basic margarita pizza that is literally a bought base, with sliced tomato and cheese. Last time I checked, margaritas are meant to be flavourful and pack a punch.

In terms of wait times. Expect about a 45minute wait if the place isn’t buy. Also expect a manager that barks orders at her staff, while doing and achieving nothing herself.

$10 for soggy Kumara Chips and no ‘home made mayo’

$19.50 for a pizza that is basscialy cheese on toast. Incompetent staff. Although there was a large friendly fellow that was very helpful.

Stare clear of this place if you value quick service and quality food for a reasonable price.

However if you like paying 5 star restaurant prices, for food made by people that shouldn’t call themselves chefs, then this is the place for you!!!

🍕 Was disgusted in the pizzas all topped 4cm +- from edges making them the size of the small pizza. The wait was crazy long. Asked bar staff - who were really embarrassed about it, to talk to chef after building his pizza with the dough crusts on the board again and returning it to the kitchen. Chef was uptight about it stating "that's how it's done in AKL" - yeahhhnahhh it's not sorry... Stop ripping people off.. Refused to pay for expired beverage and although we ordered large pizza, I would only pay for small size due to lack of topping. Asked the pub owner to get hold of me, no one replied. The steak on the other hand was good *Be careful if you sit outside as outdoor tables have long rusty nail ends which stick out underneath.

Second round.... Met my friend for a drink here and noticed the pizza size sign is smaller 😂🤣... Let's not adjust the topping, let's cut the picture down and charge the same. This time the place was super understaffed and staff were pressurised and irritated. This place needs much better management, it's not fair...
