I can't comment on the camping aspect of this site, however I can thoroughly recommend it based on the natural scenery. We went for a day trip to the watering hole which is a short walk from the campsite, through a cave. The water was perfect for swimming in on the hot day we went, and there were plenty of places for jumping off rocks. These rocks have been jumped off for years and so a generally safe but always exercise caution and make sure your safe if you jump. It's also fun to try and swim through the current and then drift down to the rocks. Bring plenty of water and food with you and you can make a day of it. Read moreThis is Department of Conservation campsite. It is not a freedom camping site, however it is very cheap. There is many camping sites to choose from but it can be very busy early January due to NZ Summer Holidays. There is a bush walk that goes though the camp, and allows walkers to walk through a tunnel to a deep swimming hole and then to the Karangahake mine sites. There are a number of toilets, they are long drops and serviced regularly. At Dickeys Flat is a very good swimming hole good for all ages, 1 year and older.
