Good reserve to go to . I walk Bella (Shitzu ) on a lead mid week . At the time of writing , we have been knocked around a bit by the inclement weather ( February 2023 ) Good family friendly D O C site , Safe swimming for all ages , extensive , easy walking tracks . ( message to A@@$% holes with felt tip Pens , and , Spray Cans , You Are Not Welcome Here )... Enjoy the ambience and share a thought for the poor sods that are driving in traffic whilst you are observing a snapshot of New Zealand riverside camping as it used to be . Complete with a suspension Bridge above troubled...

Awesome camp spot.

Key points to remember:

Get there early. It can get very busy, very quickly Parking. There are a lot of people who use this carpark as a day park for the hikes and rides in the area. And the carpark is not big. So keep calm, and keep trying. There is no "fresh water source" as such. It's water from the river. You cannot camp next to you car. You will need to carry your gear. ( It's not too far. But something to remember) There are a LOT of little pockets of campsites. From the carpark you cannot see them all, so...

There is no social control here, just people partying with loud music, leaving with the loud music, bright car lights on, with kids throwing rocks at eachother between the cars and their baby crying at 11 PM in the night. The may be nice nights here, but I would absolutely recommend to people who like calm nature camping to avoid this campsite in the holidays...

Stunning camp site not too far from Auckland. Surrounded by walks and amazing views with a cave adventure not too far walk. It does get a bit busy so you have to get there early to get a spot and sadly you can't book before hand but it's definitely worth the trip. There are also loads of amazing walks within half an hour's drive.
