Gateway Motor Lodge — Hotel in North Island

At short notice we had to find accommodation in Wanganui for a ex work colleagues funeral so a quick hunt online showed Gateway Motor Lodge handy to where we needed to be on a Saturday morning. |The owners were very friendly. We asked where we might find a nice breakfast Saturday morning before the funeral service but were not given much to go on. |The room was as described. Showing signs of wear and tear but bed was comfy and room had everything we needed. |Unfortunately the sign out by the busy road which said "sound proofed rooms" must have meant sound proofed between the rooms because the rooms were not sound proofed from the road noise outside. We should have realised when we opened the cutlery draw and found ear plugs. Athough Heads Road isn't a major road, it is a busy road. All day and all...

•Absolutely wonderful 5 night stay. •Everything that you wish for in a motel. •This one is exceptionally clean and recently renovated. •Very welcoming, helpful and friendly. I had been leaving the windows open each day but wasn’t returning till after dinner and they had closed the windows and turned the heat pump on for me. •They even have electric blankets which coming from the north in winter was so deeply appreciated. •The location is close to everything and it’s only 4 stars due to being close to a main road but the traffic is quiet overnight and in the day time it’s a hum. I discovered I much prefer the rhythmic background traffic noise to noisy places with people being loud.

My husband and I called quite late on Saturday evening to see if they had any rooms available last minute. The lovely lady on the phone not only was able to offer us a 2 bedroom unit last minute but at a great price too. She was so friendly and accommodating when we arrived. The rooms are dated but as per other reviews, we were impressed with the cleanliness. Probably the cleanest rooms we've ever stayed in. Would 100% stay again if we're in the area. Friendly, clean, accommodating and comfortable. ...
