There is no grandeur, spa or resort here. This place is shabby, run down, and neglected, and what's most disappointing is that we were duped into paying full price for our room (over $230 for 2 adults) because it was a long weekend and accommodation in Taupo was at a premium. We had booked a Family Studio (1 queen bed, 1 single bed) through Expedia, looked at the property photos and read the reviews available at that time (mid 2023) and were reasonably happy with what we saw - after all, we only needed one night's accommodation and only for sleeping as we were going to be out and about during the day. Reality on checking in was very different - the exterior is neglected (unmowed lawns, rubbish, holes in fences), and inside wasn't much better - I had to rehang the curtains so we could then close them and even then they're still not right (or matching), no guest information folder, poor TV reception (no Sky which would be expected for this price), cobwebs, chipped walls in the shower and a broken soap caddy, what looked like blood on the wall behind the toilet, greasy bathroom floors, the bathroom door handle wasn't fitted securely into the door, gaps between walls and skirting, the list goes on and on. If we weren't so tired, we would have demanded a refund and then turned around and driven all the way home instead. This place is absolutely not worth the price per night that is being asked, even on the cheapest website.

Place looked great in the photos but once we arrived, we thought we had been scammed as the building looked abandoned. Sign falling off and boarded up windows with spray paint on the front. The little house thing we rented could have been nice as if it was clean! First thing we noticed was the smell! It was disgusting and gave us headaches so we had to go buy deodorising spray and air freshener which sort of helped but didnt fix it. We pulled the couch out to move it more in front of the TV and there was old socks, rubbish and built up dust all behind it. The spa bath was filthy. I had to fill it and empty it 4 times with the jets running before the water stayed clear. The blankets on the beds were stained and hidden between 2 white sheets. Looked like dried blood on the blankets.. there was black mould all over the bathroom tiles and above the doorway to the bathroom (guessing its because there was no bathroom fan to use while showering, would explain the smell too) also the walls were filthy and some of the cutlery looked like it had been used then just put away. There was legit a glass with lip marks on it. Also im guessing the bathroom wasn't cleaned as there was used soap on top of the shower door and the shower was filthy, also was skid marks in the toilet.. Very disappointed. Would have definitely booked another place had i been able to get my money back when we arrived.

The location isn’t bad, but the signage is barely noticeable from the road. If my boyfriend hadn’t pointed it out, I would have missed it entirely. Unfortunately, my first impression was unsettling—a deserted motel in the middle of nowhere on a gloomy day, which gave me chills. The reception was unattended, and we had to call to get the keys and check in. Surprisingly, they never asked for my identity as a second guest—not even my name or any form of ID, which felt unprofessional. The reception area itself didn’t inspire much confidence in the condition of the rooms. To my relief, the room didn’t have any unpleasant smells, and the sheets and towels were clean and white. However, we later discovered stains on the mattress and duvet, which was disappointing and gross. The overall condition of the place is outdated—it hasn’t been upgraded in years. The rooms desperately need fresh paint and new curtains, and the grounds could use better maintenance, like cutting the grass. This place has so much potential to be one of the best in town if the owners put in the effort to improve it. At the moment, it feels more like a backpacker’s stop than a resort. That said, it could work well for bikers or hikers looking for a basic place to stay.

Cancel your reservation before it’s too late!!!||||If you think this is made up continuing reading other reviews!||||In my opinion I do not recommend this as a place to stay even as a last resort. Unfortunately for myself and my family we were subjected to two different nights at this ghost town.||||Upon coming down the driveway the place looks as though it has been abandoned and unkept. I recommend watching the movie ‘get out’ if you want a taster of what it’s even remotely like to stay here. ||||The reception area and external state of the restaurant is covered in cobwebs and mould which complement the boarded up windows as you step into a large space with an unmanned desk and ripped up flooring. Don’t even get me started on “Joshua’s Restaurant”. There was no Joshua in site. ||||The so called “superior chalets” need to be demolished. The stains on the two seater couch that was meant to fit the four of us were foul. ||||Upon further inspection of the place there were holes in the carpet, missing door knobs replaced by drawer handles that were attached to the patio door via strapping tape, Stairs that are quite literally about to crack under even the lightest of feet with pieces of the grudges hair hanging from every single step, mould for millennia, and a shower where you can get a close up view of a science experiment that is a mixture of dirt, head hair, pubes and most likely rodent and insect droppings. The window in the door to the spa bath had a large crack and was held together with sellotape. ||||The place is definitely not well equipped and I would 10/10 recommend buying your own toilet paper because what you are supplied with is so thin. I also recommend sleeping with your mouth closed as you are likely to consume the insects that are permanent residents in the loft of Chalet 9. ||||The beds do not even have duvet covers, instead the duvet inners (that were once white but are now a dirty brown) are slapped in-between two sheets like a crappy cheeseburger and look like they have been passed down thousands of generations sans pee/blood stains. ||||Forget about getting a good nights sleep. The walls of each Chalet are paper thin and probably without insulation. The neighbours next door to us made sure that we could hear their yakking until 2am in the morning not giving a rats backside that there were other families around trying to enjoy their well deserved holiday. ||||If you are wanting the total horror movie experience you can even venture around the derelict building sitting in the centre of the property that is (used?) as a wash house. This is by far the worst place to stay in Taupo. ||||If you are horror fanatics then by all means this is the place to stay. The vibe of this place is very negative and eery. However, if you are wanting to avoid a plague like environment then give this (not resort) a miss by all means. ||||So sad to envision the potential this place could have if only it had owners who actually cared about it and the rich history it likely has. ||||Consider this your heads up to not stay at this hole until the day new owners take over and renovate this land to a state that is habitable...

Where do I start. DO NOT STAY HERE! My husband described it as having A Griswalds holiday. Like others we were catfished from the internet. Should have known, on arrival and driving through an industrial building to get to the accommodation- there was a sign saying "chalets" with an arrow. We could just read the sign amongst the weeds. On opening the door, a musty damp smell met us. On inspection the window latches were broken, curtains coming off the track, rubbish down side of couch, dining seats dirty. Went to make a cup of tea, cups dirty, went to wash them no plug for sink, no detergent or cloth to wash them. Cutlery short for 4 people. Had to buy bowls, cutlery and cups to have breakfast next morning. Bought air freshener to help with mildew smell. Piles under chalets going, so it slopes to one side. Power point not working to boil jug. Toilet roll holder coming off wall, shower with orange mold. Black mold around every window, marks on bathroom door and dust and marks on skirting boards. Upstairs loft railing too low for kids safety. Upside fresh carpet, new bathroom cabinet and updated kitchen. Linen was cleaned offsite, and beds comfy. Why on earth are these owners spending money doing these up when they need to be bold over and start again. Went to check out the outdoor swimming pool - keeping with the general theme of this place the pool water was green. Spa attached to our room looked old and after what we had seen, was not going to get in, especially as the spa was installed on a wooden deck with ferns growing up between the boards from underneath. After looking outside, realised why the hot water takes so long to come through - there is a rubber pipe running around the outside of the chalet before it goes under the chalet and attached to the plumbing. Also walks are thin and could here next door walking up stairs. As for the newly installed Tesla charging points, if you can afford a Tesla, you wouldn't be staying here. Also was woken in the morning by frogs croaking in the stream that runs past the back of the chalets, upon looking into the stream it is slimy and disgusting, poor frogs living in that. Rubbish hadn't been collected and was mounted up against next chalet. Weeds growing around chalets, and all needing a good paint. IT PROBABLY WAS GREAT IN ITS TIME BUT THIS IS A VERY RUN DOWN PROPERTY AND THE OWNERS DONT CLEAN OR KEEP IT MAINTAINED. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING FOR OUR HOLIDAY. LUCKY ONLY BOOKED FOR 1 NIGHT - UNLUCKY IT COST $370. DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE! DO NOT BOOK THIS...
