Walked from Spa Park to Huka falls with our 3 & 5 year olds - slowly & with breaks. The 3 year old is a good walker but didn't quite make it to the end. I was very nervous at the points where the path was basically a cliff on the one side with a very large drop into fast moving water: I wouldn't recommend taking young kids along this path to Huka due to this.

Starting from Spa Park (if you're only doing one way) there's a little more downhill than uphill (there's plenty of uphill and downhill in both directions). There was a bench at about a third of the way in at a lookout point, and then a good area for sitting off the path at about halfway.

My favorite part of the walk is in Spa Park itself and down to the hot pools (which you can kind of swim in but it doesn't look great for young kids).

The path sometimes is muddy but it wasn't too bad this time. There's about...

Really short walk to the thermal pool && pond. Thermal stream all the way along the walkway too. Beautiful lush thermal ferns. The owner/reception staff is very lovely and friendly. The room smells just like the rest home. I had to leave the windows open while out and sleep with cracked windows so as not to smell that odd rest home scent . The quality of the space is subpar. The bathroom looks rather D.I.Y. and the shower box wall has cracked paint at the bottom. The tiles look unclean not because it is, but because the feeling it exudes. The driveway is rough and has huge dents that could damage the wheels of the car.

The hotel building is far below usual hotel standard, it looks worn and like an unfurnished left-as-is old Barn, the exterior looks quite seemly. For that price , one could stay at a beautiful hotel / motel with a view and 4star quality, beautifully...

Visiting the Spa Thermal Park was my first experience in a natural hot pool. It was raining which added to the experience. No entrance fee. A bit of a walk from the carpark especially as it was raining and windy. We walked up the hill above the car park to use the toilet facilities. It turned out there were toilets and changing facilities and a cafe close to the hot pools. The lights were off in the toilet I used, I guess because it was a raining and overcast day and the lights might be solar powered. The natural light coming from under the metal door was not enough so I had to use the light from my phone. No storage facilities available so we had to place our bags on the rocks near us under an umbrella. Make sure you bring your own towels. We did not have towels so we had to go back and buy them from Coutdown Taupo few minutes drive from the spa. Overall, a nice experience.
