Pauanui Pines Motor Lodge — Hotel in North Island

We enjoyed the final weekend of our holidays here and I can't think of a better place to have come.

The attractions of the local area were lovely, plentiful, and well described by our knowledgeable hosts.

The best bit for me was actually chilling at the lodge and enjoying the multitude of amenities.

The pool was perfectly heated to take away the cool edge but still a refreshing reprieve from the heat. We enjoyed relaxing in the pool area, enjoying the sun loungers, and we made use of the poolside bbq for one of our dinners - so easy with the SuperValue grocery store a short walk away. I could have easily spent the whole weekend in this area alone!

It was way too hot for the spa, but it still had me tempted!

We also made use of the games, chilling out on the patio of our room, and enjoying afternoon shade and sunset views in the larger picnic area.

The rooms are comfortable, clean and well appointed, and hosts Simon and Carole made us feel more than comfortable to sing out if we needed anything at all.

We didn’t know, that the Check-In wasn’t all day / that they don’t leave instructions after the reception closes and just leave your key somewhere (because we booked through an agency). We were welcomed by the most unfriendly and rude host. We weren’t greeted at all. The first question was how we were gonna pay the fine/fee for checking in late - cash or card $35. We’ve travelled a lot and we’ve never had such a rude “welcome” if you can even call it that. The rooms don’t have A/C. The WiFi only worked in our bedroom and it barely worked. Before checking out you have to wash all your dishes by hand, bring out the trash and can’t leave anything leaving around, otherwise you’ll risk more hidden fees. We felt unwelcome the entire time so I really wouldn’t recommend a stay...

I'm not usually one to go out of my way to write a review, but I feel the experience at staying here at pauanui motor lodge deserves it. Carole & Simon have done an amazing job and made this place feel very welcoming and enjoyable to stay. From cleanliness of the overall grounds, to the well kept gardens and super comfy beds not to mention great views and activities. We used the bikes around the rail trail and then came back for a spa & swim in the pool. Cheeky little 9 hole course and tennis course are also there for entertainment.
