An incredible place to visit. We only popped out here for a short visit (about an hour) despite the long drive. After waiting patiently (and not so patiently) behind some very slow traffic we finally pulled in to the village. It was a grey, drizzly day for us so no view of the Mount herself but we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the village.
One look at the low buildings and built up natural landscape and you can tell it's a place designed to hunker down in winter.

One of my fav places on south island purely due to its beauty. This remote village offers mesmerizing views of snow clad mountains, hosts scenic flights to NZ glaciers (Fox Glacier and Tasman Glacier)
Mount cook village is a very small village with one cafe. I didn't find any groceries shop or a siluper market. The accomodation here get booked out very fast even thpugh they are super expensive. Read moreCross between a luxury hotel and comfy alpine lodge. Room had large picture window fronting Mount Cook and large bed with warm comforter. Modern and well-appointed bathrooms. The public spaces include not only a bar and restaurant, but a museum (Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Center) and a planetarium.
