A good place for a few nights. We stayed for 2 nights in room 11 - Kereru. We knew this room does not have full kitchen, but that was fine for what we needed. There is a microwave, toaster, electric kettle, plates and cutlery which was adequate for 2 of us. We had already read comments about the absence of sink, so this was not a surprise for us. The bed is firm, which we like. The water pressure, flow and temperature in the shower is excellent. It is a modern place with everything we needed.

We booked a chatlet. It was clean and tidy. I like the shampoo and body wash they have (its fragrant). The down side is that they didnt have cooking oil and are short staffed, so if we needed something, its difficult to ask. Attached picture (cool cows minding their own business) was taken from the back of the chatlet (property beside Franz Alpine Retreat).

This is a nice place with friendly staff. You can wash and dry for 6$ between 3 pm to 8 pm. The houses are clean and lots of space. You’re not allowed to do any cooking with a lot of smell (Curry e.g.). Close to Franz Josef which you can drive to within 15 min. The kids could play safely outside without adults.

I enoyed staying here and the place is ok for the area.... however room service wasnt up to scratch as there wasn't any. No toilet paper replacement, we had to ask for towles, no bins taken out and we had to ask for coffee as they gave us enough for 2 people for one morning but we were 4 and staying there for 2 days...we had a young person at the desk who wanted to know why we needed more coffee!. We shouldnt have to justify this nor should we beg for the room service. Laundry was also an issue, it was often full of linen that needed washing and you will need to pay a fee for the washing machine, and another fee for the dryer and detergent- not happy as we ended up going to the co-op in the centre of town and it was much cheaper and cleaner there. However, I must say the old lady at the counter is a real gem there and deserves a star on her own. She was very helpful when she was working and went above and beyond her duties. I would recomend this place if you stay there for 1 night only - due to the absence of room service. I gave this place 3 stars due to cable tv (albeit a small screen) and good...

Holiday camp style chalet accommodation. Clearly has been updated with new carpets, kitchen and some new furniture, but fair number of maintenance issues including sticking doors, leaking shower, toilet flusher a challenge to operate. Lots of condensation. Nice mountain view. Quiet despite being close to main road. Comfortable beds. On-site laundry ($6 for wash/dry at time of visit). TV with basic channels. Although clearly short of staff (no manned reception - telephone for service, note saying cabin service not available), helpful and accommodating when we had issues with the TV/providing a fold up bed for our 3rd child. Small deck area with uncomfortable furniture that could do...

Very much a last minute booking, and it was a severe toss up between the Franz Josef Oasis, where I had stayed before and it was great, or this place, just down the road. I opted for the Franz Alpine Retreat to give it a try. Both the F.A.R and the Oasis were the same price.

Lady at check in was friendly and pointed out my Chalet. Lights and Heaters already on, the Chalet was well furnished and tastefully set out. Was a pretty large unit, with a full kitchen, and separate bathroom. Bed was super comfortable, although it could have used another duvet as a spare.

No bath, but the shower had decent pressure and everything was spotlessly clean.. Close to the highway, but no excessive...
