On our road trip exploration of the South Island, we wanted to see Taupo/Mt. Cook. Am I glad that all accommodations in Aoraki were booked, since we chose the Heartland Lodge as our overnight stay. What a gem in the middle of NZ.||||As we pulled up, Peter came out to welcome us with our name on his blackboard. Such a nice touch which was only surpassed by the room, the lodge itself and the graciousness of the host. Read moreI did not actually manage to stay at this property but was looking for accommodation in Twizel on the fly. Unfortunately there was an event on in town this particular time and there was not much good accomodation available. Mary , the host, had no availability for my family & I, but she went beyond the call by helping me find a good place to stay, phoning other facilities till we got somewhere. Her homestead was beautiful, spacious, warm & welcoming, and I told her next time I was intending coming to the south island I would be booking well in advance. Read moreWe only spent one night here due to Christchurch flight commitments but the stay was well worthwhile. Jim & Mary suggested we drive the area as we arrived a little earlier than planned. Mt Cook was incredible and the views sensational. Great BnB, very clean, very quiet, large rooms with ensuite and that homely feel you don't get in larger hotels. We had the continental breakfast but others ordered bacon, eggs, pancakes..Jim was onto it !! Poppy's was their suggestion in town for dinner and can recommend that as well...try the ice cream...
