Highway Lodge Motel — Hotel in South Island

Are you familiar with American motels, who mostly have shady or/and cramped rooms? Rooms that you don't walk in with bare feet? We are, and this motel is absolutely nothing like it.

You can't tell by looking at the outside, but the rooms are renovated and are fancy, very comfortable and super clean. I was pleasantly surprised to even find a kitchen with oven in the room.

Besides the great room, the owner is incredibly sweet, kind and friendly. Others in this business can learn from this person!

We booked for 4 beds, but a bed was missing. He immediately apologised (noted the mistake before we even entered the room) and came in with an extra bed which he made up for us. He even took the time to discuss the position of the beds to make sure it was set how it would work best for us as a family. Amazing!

There was a very fine adjustment in getting warm water in the shower. Plenty of hot water. The unit was very clean. Lovely new drapes. The bed was very comfortable. It seemed to be fairly new. There were extra warm throws for cold nights. Extra towels and pillows. The 50+ sky channels were appreciated. The kitchen was very practical. It had a stove with 4 hobs and a shiney, clean oven. The two comfortable armchairs were good. The heat pump kept us warm. The price was very reasonable. In a tourist spot it would have been much more expensive. The Four Square grocery shop is on easy walking distance. Just a few hundred metres down the street. Overall very good and would reccommend to other travellers. Thanks...

It is obvious to us that a lot of thought has gone into this motel to ensure that just about every need of their guests are catered for. The motel rooms here are modern, spacious and they have a fully equipped kitchen that includes a full size hob, oven and microwave, dining table and chairs. Our room had comfy beds and a nice ensuite. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We are cycle touring and the friendly owners kindly stored our bicycles safely overnight in their garage. We liked the motel so much that we wanted to stay another night but unfortunately for us, it was fully booked. This excellent value motel would make a perfect 2-3 night base to explore the wonderful surrounding areas. Highly...
