Maybe it's my luck, but this is the second cafe in the south where I have been greeted with rude service! I came in ready for a latte but seemed as if there were two prices. When I asked, the young blonde headed girl behind the counter in an annoyed tone told me that was the only size and priced option. Despite the sign showing two prices. Then quickly went to ring me up as if I was a bother. I didn't even have time to ask for a receipt( I usually ask for document purposes ) because I was rushed out of the way for the next person paying for breakfast items. But then later saw her ask someone else if they needed their receipt.
Neither the young girls at the counter look anywhere close to happy, and hey I won't judge and assume the reasoning because I've worked similar jobs. Regardless, you work a job with people and provide a service to them, you provide your best service!
I hate leaving negative reviews but simply felt unwelcome and unwanted! Highly disappointed! đ

Read moreHad been waiting hours for food and finally got to stop off at Balclutha only to be disappointed. We arrived at 2:30 and my friend tried to order something off the lunch menu but the lady said she couldnât because the grill had been turned off, even though the shop still had an hour left until closing. She then tried to order something else off the menu when she said the same thing about the grill, instead of telling her what she could order that didnât need the grill. On top of this she is also gluten free so looked in the cabinet and were very limited options so had to resort to a smoothie which said was not good at all. My other friend and I ordered chips but they overloaded with salt which made us feel gross afterwards. The young blonde girl was rude and did not even manage to smile. Last of all, the toasted sandwiches sign said you can have two fillings but didnât even state the fillings. Do not recommend this place and are highly disappointed in our experience, are...

My 3 standouts
1 - The banana bread french toast with extras. A great spin on a classic and I always love a new brunch option to try.
2 - Comfortable interior, plenty of seating.
3 - Great South Otago service. Love small town friendliness and this place had it.
Observations:
Regret not buying an cinnamon oyster (a great kiwi classic) and I notice it was a popular choice. I think this decision will keep me awake over the next few nights.
Liked the interior, nice dark wall and...
