Beautiful views, great rooms and a bathroom to die for. I’d give Mary 100% on hospitality as well, she made us feel extra welcome and gave us recommendations and showed us around the hangar!
Taking away one star due to the breakfast. It is advertised as ‘continental breakfast’ but only had one type of bread which was whole grain and you had to cook your own eggs if you wanted them and to either clean your pan for others to use it, or clean the pan used by people before you. As well as put away your dishes afterwards.
A continental breakfast is described as “a light morning meal typically consisting of pastries and baked goods, fruits, toast, and coffee. It is usually served buffet-style and modeled after the European breakfast.”
I would have phrased what was offered as ‘available kitchen amenities, self serve with what ingredients are available’. As opposed to a continental breakfast as there were no pastries or baked goods.
Wifi is extremely slow but owners have explained it’s due to the location because more remote.
They also explained that there are no blackout curtains due to the heat from the sun in summer and the toxic fumes that get...
Read moreThis is one of the several lodges on the pukaki air strip. The lady was nice. Gave me early check in. I could not get latter check out which was disappointing because usually in the United States check out is at 11 am or later. in NZ its 10 am. I did a quick run to mt cook national park and got back around 10 am and by the time the room was cleaned out. I sat in the lounge for a bit checking my plan for the day while I was told I had to get out as they were locking up the place to be somewhere by 11:15 am. as I was standing next to my vehicle checking maps on my phone in the parking area the guy yells from the balcony that I had "overstayed" and he "suggests I get going" I was a bit confused what seems to have offended him exactly since I had already left the lodge at that point, regardless this is no way to talk to a guest. I start to ask is there a problem when he yells no talking with a offensive sign and runs inside. This encounter felt shocking as I never stay at places with rude hosts. Sadly I won't be visiting this place again and wouldn't be able to...
Read moreUnique and very comfortable boutique lodging! Mary and her partner are very friendly, showing us the Chinese trainer plane they have restored and flown. The setting is right behind the airstrip and you can see a plane land/take off if they happen to be running. Nighttime stargazing is great as there's no light around other than the occasional car driving by and light from other rooms in the hotel. The facility is all brand new and very nice and clean. There's a large shared kitchen which was great for cooking dinner. Location wise it's a five minute drive to Twizel for supermarket and food etc. Would definitely recommend if looking for a place to stay in the area or looking for something...
