We loved our 3 day stay at Cable Bay views. The location worked really well for us - we brought our car over on the ferry, but actually for people who enjoy a walk, you can walk up from the Matiatia ferry in about half an hour (head for Cable Bay vineyard first then around the roadside to Cable Bay Views). And as you can tell from this, the whare is also (a short) walking distance from two close-by wineries - Cable Bay and Mudbrick - both of which do lunch and evening meals. Mudbrick also does breakfast 9-11am - on a fine day, breakfast out on the terraces at Mudbrick with views across the sea to Rangitoto and the Auckland CBD is something very special. And if you stay at Cable Bay Views, you even have the option of doing this every day. We stayed in Unit 2, the central unit in a terrace of lovely modern whare with their backs to the road (lined with attractive tropical plantings) and front sides looking out across greenery to Cable Bay winery. A full length deck runs right along the front side with doors opening on to it - a great space for sitting outdoors with a book, and especially for relaxing in the evening when it is cooler. There is a small kitchen area (fridge and microwave), couch, small table with chairs and large, comfortable bed. Quite a few extras - I especially loved the lovely toiletries: body and hand wash, shampoo and conditioner plus handcream all by great New Zealand brand Ashley and co. There is no plunger but a coffee machine with pods (not so easy to find pods on the island so if this is your thing, and you are going to stay more than a night, consider bringing your own). Also only two mugs and two glasses so you may like to bring a few of your own. For example, we began by using one glass for our toothbrushes then realised there weren’t any to drink from. Hairdryer, iron and board, even an umbrella. And the highlight for me - Sky Sport! As a cricket fan I was thrilled to be able to not only watch New Zealand beat India, but to be able to tape the match while we were out enjoying Waiheke to finish watching later. Ka mau te wehi! Quiet and easy (key in lockbox when you arrive), this is an ideal place for independent travellers to enjoy a...
Read moreWe have just returned from our romantic "mini break" on Waiheke. Studio 1 was a room with WOW factor from the view and privacy of the room to the luxurious linen on the bed! The Nespresso, bathroom products, cleaning products, interior touches and design with feather filled cushions were thoughtful and a welcomed change from the regular "Hotel products" that seem a little "chain storish" at times. The lockbox and other security features were a perfect touch. The local Waiheke wine is exactly what you want on offer when you travel to an island so rich in the winery experience so well done! The craft beer was a particularly satisfying drop and we could easily have had 2 more each. The walk to Mudbrick was indeed short as was the walk to the Oneroa retail, restaurants and the local art. Your location is truly convenient which only added to the overall exceptional experience of packing in as much as possible in this "mini break". The communication from Jan was efficient and we thank you for allowing us to keep our bags in the storage facility while we took advantage of tiki touring our way through the sights. Constructively: (this did not affect our stay in any way) Our TV was stuck on "loud" and for the life of me I couldn't work out how to turn it down so that may have been annoying for Unit No 2. The beer really was sublime, another 2-4 would have been perfection. For avid coffee drinkers who take milk, perhaps 500ml of milk would last better given Nespresso is made with a milk frother) I am sure you get asked all the time for a late checkout as the room is so amazing but that too could be a plus sometimes although I do understand the need for an efficient cleaning schedule. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting to experience "authentic sophisticated service" and hope to get back sometime soon.
PS Loved the complimentary Whittakers...
Read moreFrom the very first moment I stepped into Cable Bay, I felt truly welcomed and well taken care of.
The Mexican host was incredibly kind and explained everything I needed to know about the restaurant and the tasting room. I was lucky that the place wasn’t too busy, so she took the time to give me a full tour—and let me tell you, the entire venue and its facilities are absolutely beautiful.
It starts with the restaurant and bar, which offer some of the most stunning views I’ve seen here in Waiheke. Then there’s the Cellar Door, with its unique perspective into the winery, and finally, the hidden Wine Library downstairs—an absolute gem.
The chefs also do an amazing job in the kitchen! The lamb and the pizzas are true showstoppers.
I’m so glad I had the opportunity to visit and enjoy the experience. I even left with a couple of bottles of their olive oil—and of course, some wine (the rosé is my...
