This property has become one of my most favourite Intercontinental Hotels. The property is intimate, never pretentious but rather exude genuine hospitality reflective of its friendliest, ever helpful and caring staff. It's not the flashiest hotel that I've ever stayed in but that it represent is home away from home and that's what I've experienced during my 3 day stay here.
The moment I walked in to the Ambassador check in desk, Indira was all smile and took care of the check-in formalities rather swiftly and she gave us the run down of the entire property - restaurants, gym, pool, club lounge, etc...During our stay, she has become the epitome of what this property represent - authentic hospitality, caring for each and every guest and pride in her job. All of these characters where shown to us through her warm smile, daily hellos and greetings, her phone call to see if everything was satisfactory, her knowledge and the joy that came from her when she talked about her country and the places that she recommended for us to see during our short stay. She is truly a great asset and a real ambassador to this property. She was one of the reasons why Nicaragua has become of one my favourites out of the 61 country that I have visited so far and one of the reasons why Managua was our favourite and the most memorable stop out of the 4 countries that we've visited during this vacation.
Mike and Jairo, the bell boys that helped us out were also a part of why we've enjoyed our visit here. They went out of their way or beyond their duties to make our stay enjoyable. Mike recommended the Voltes, Nau Lounge and Factory Lobster and Steak. We gladly tried two of the three and never regretted it. He also introduced us to Bladimir, one of drivers that the hotel uses for their guests to hire and we've had the most amazing tour of Managua city and we've had one of the most amazing seafood dinner during the tour. Jairo was very down to earth and very passionate about his job. He informed us about the celebration of La Purisima and what it means to the Nicaraguans. He even came back to our room and delivered two baskets of assorted sweets and told us that these are traditional give-aways during this week long celebration and handed us a write up about this celebration. Wow, that's what you call service!
The lady that cleaned our room was very efficient in ensuring that our room was taken care of properly and accordingly. I did not have a pleasure of meeting her but she did an awesome job and I loved little touches like fresh flowers hanging with the towels, fresh flowers and chocolates with the animal-towel that she placed on the bed. I have never encountered such during my stays in any Intercontinental Hotels. Little touches such as these get noticed and it was very much appreciated. The "Sweet Dreams" card with tidbits of information regarding local celebrations, local products, etc...were amazing touches that made this hotel stood out amongst the many hotels that I've stayed at in my travels. A big kudos to this room attendant.
Deybi, Juan and Felix were the most friendliest bunch serving guests at the Club Lounge. They were genuinely interested in talking with the guests and clearly take pride in their job. They always asked us how did we sleep and how was the day. These people also represent this property with distinction.
I could write more and more about this place but I suppose I can summarize what I am trying to convey with the title of my review.
This place is highly recommended and it's one of the best hotels that I've...
Read moreOn June 18th, 2023, I had a reservation at the Intercontinental Managua at Metrocentro Mall --- I tried to check into the hotel at the front desk with a front desk agent named ..... She informed me that I did NOT have a reservation, and that it had been cancelled. I said NO, there is a mistake, I paid in points, and I did not cancel. She was rude, she told me the hotel was booked and that I needed to find different accommodations. I kindly said to her, NO, I will wait while you fix this, then I showed her my reservation on my laptop.
She then proceeded to spend the next 20-30 minutes finding me a room. She did check me in. I went to the room and called IHG to ask them what this mess was all about and they were not sure. I asked them if they could offer breakfast at no charge and they said absolutely we can do that.
However, the internet connection was bad and I could not stay connected on a VOIP call. I called the front desk and spoke with ....., I asked her if she could call IHG for me - she said no, "they can't do that" I said you can't call your parent company? She said no. I asked her if I could use the phone in the room to call IHG, she said yes but there would be a premium charge to do so. --- I was so frustrated...
I returned to my room and got back on my laptop and called IHG again, they said to request breakfast for my trouble with the front desk. So, I went back down to ..... When she told me "NO, we cannot give you breakfast" I said "can you call your manager, she said "No" I said" can I call him"? She said "No, sorry, he can't be disturbed". ..... then told me that she would give my points back and I could go to another hotel.
I then took a quick video of the hotel and took a few pics of the property and I returned to my room, packed my bag and left the room --- I left the room 100% untouched, did not use one towel, nothing was touched.
At the time of writing this review, I have not been given a refund of the points that I paid for the room. IHG has assured me that the Intercontinental will indeed give the points back, but I have not heard from them as of yet.
Do not waste your time at the Intercontinental Managua. The front desk is snarky, snooty, and they act as if they are better than you because they work in a "fancy" hotel. There are many other options in the Managua area, don't waste your time...
Read moreI travel frequently and all over… and the Real Intercontinental surprised me with one of the quietest room experiences out there. I couldn’t hear neighbors, guests above, noise outside… or even housekeeping. That is rare, even in five star establishments.||The rooms are comfortably sized and well-appointed. The bathroom is nice and clean, with excellent plumbing, pressure, and temperature. There is a glass separator — no shower curtains, of course. Lighting is great and there is a lit vanity mirror. Amenities are very good… and the bedding is excellent. You can ask for hypoallergenic bedding but you may have to double-check the pillows. Wifi is solid!||There are 4 restaurants, which is a lot for a medium-sized hotel. The sushi and steak places are considered top-10 in the city. Breakfast is quite good… the omelettes were great, but coffee is just OK (common in Managua), as often were the plantains (rarely truly ripe). Fruit selection was good, but it wasn’t all consistent. With so much to choose from, I believe that they should not serve those which are not on point.||The lobby is a tad outdated, but it is still nice.||The staff is top-notch, from housekeeping to front desk. Management has that perfect mix of true professionalism and warmth.||The hotel’s location is very central, but traffic in all of Managua has gotten quite heavy. It takes 15-30min to get anywhere, even if it is a few blocks away. This is a city-wide issue… infrastructure is decades behind… roads are not in great shape and driving education is deficient.||Whatever the case, this is probably the best hotel in the entire city — don’t hesitate to...
