Good value for money
I had a generally okay stay in Ahi Residence. However, we had a rocky start and that has marred the entire experience.
Bad first experience
I booked a room in Ahi Residence from their website and the site redirected me to a payment gateway to pay. I made payment and got a confirmation mail from HotelMoney tell me why my mum gets to the hotel only to be told the booking is invalid. Ahi payments must be made directly to the hotel in person. For context, my mum has knee issues and this was the reason we booked the hotel due to its close proximity to Igbobi Orthopaedic so she could go for treatment.
Not only was she delayed for 2 hours after which she had to pay for a separate booking, the frontdesk attendant firmly told us to engage HotelMoney, a payment gateway listed on their website to get my money back. So you can imagine my annoyance. Why do you have a payment gateway listed on your platform if the payment is invalid and will require physical booking?
Long story short, I have been informed by HotelMoney and Paystack that my refund will take 7 - 15 business days after several calls and followup mails. I have copied Ahi in all correspondences but just like their help-less front desk person, they have been conveniently blind and mum on the matter. NGN31,500 is stuck.
Hotel and room pros and cons
Elevator
The hotel rooms are on the third and fourth floors, however, they do not have an elevator so expect to use the stairs
Complimentary breakfast Comes with complimentary breakfast so good value for money
All amenities - AC, fridge, shower, toilet, water heater, toilet flusher, wardrobe, TV - work just fine. A toilet mat would be great! Not sure if the hotel WiFi works but they didn’t share it so I guess you have to call for access.
Bed for the 31,500 room is queen size so it’s a 4 x ) and will do for two average sized people.
Room isn’t fancy but functional. Smell is non-existent or slightly off but not a source of concern. Sheets did not feel fresh also but again, it wasn’t a serious cause of concern.
Food was well-portioned, delicious and affordable at 7 - 10k per head.
It is situated in a quiet street in Igbobi which might be great for sound sleep but perhaps not for accessing transport, convenience stores, restaurants, banks, pharmacies, etc.
Staff were generally polite and quite nice after the initial brouhaha
It was generally okay but if they had an elevator, improved first time experience especially with the payment thing and slightly improved on maintenance and cleanliness of room amenities, that would earn them a...
Read moreWell, stayed here for one night between arriving in Lagos and traveling up to Ibadan. It's about 20 minutes from the airport, and useful for heading out of Lagos (it's near one of the highways). It's safe and secure - always a consideration in Lagos - and on a quiet street. There's nowhere to walk, so be prepared to stay onsite.||||Staff were friendly, and the rooms spacious, clean and well-maintained. Internet is free and rapid. A few things to consider. AHI doesn't take non-Nigerian credit cards, so you need to pay in cash. Also, onsite there is no alcohol which depending on your predilection is a blessing or severe trauma (after arriving from the UK, for me it was the latter). It is possible to send out for beer, though this can only be drunk on the rooftop patio - which to be fair has good views over the city. There's no lift, so be prepared to drag your suitcase up some flights of stairs. ||||If you're a veggie like me, the restaurant has only a limited choice - and you'll need to be VERY clear what you don't eat (after a long discussion about my not eating meat, my meal was served with goat and offal - which I was told I could just "eat around" - right....). ||||I would certainly stay here again, but I'd maybe be better prepared next time :)||||One final point: Lagos airport is an unpleasant, crowded, hot place. Be wary, on guard for scams, and make sure your paperwork is all sorted BEFORE arriving (including your Yellow Fever certificate, which they WILL check even if arriving...
Read moreI stayed at AHI Residence for 4 nights. |The room was of a good size and reasonably priced. With breakfast included I paid around 14K Naira per night which made up for the absence of scenic views and exciting location.|The food in the restaurant was of a good standard and again reasonably priced.|The staff were particularly nice and receptive.|I would have give this hotel a higher score if it wasn't for the "planned" fumigation during my stay which required me to be away from the room for several hours. I wasn't made aware of this when I booked or when I checked in. This was bad enough, but then they didn't keep to time. I was told it would take 3 hours to complete and when I returned 3.5 hours later, the fumigation hadn't even started.|With the exception of this incident, it was a really good...
