I arrived to Kristiansund by bus, I was sleeping at the time, woke up, put on my jacket, collected my suitcase, got my bearings, started to walk towards my hotel (Not the Scandic hotel) when my heart sunk, I had forgotten my backpack with my passport and wallet in the bus. After a moment of panic, I tried to get a taxi on a Norwegian taxi app to the terminus (which was two stops ahead from where I stopped) as I didn't know the layout of the city. Unfortunately, the timer kept going round and round but wouldn't find a taxi. I started panicking again as I know that the bus would just let passengers alight at the terminus, the new passengers would get on and the bus would just leave again. That's when I spotted the Scandic hotel, I went to the reception I explained my situation (and how stupid I felt) and asked if they could book my a taxi, which Anne, the receptionist, very kindly did. While I was waiting for the taxi outside, Anne came out and asked me to follow her to her car as she had called the company and the bust had just left the station and we were going to try and catch it. Very soon we saw the bus but, unfortunately, Kristiansund only has one lane of traffic each way and the traffic was heavy so Anne couldn't overtake the bus, so we had to follow until, after quite a while, there was someone waiting for the bus and I could jump from the car and retrieve my backpack from the bus.||After that, had I been able to change my travel plans I would have definitely stayed at this hotel and when (not if) I return to Kristiansund I will definitely stay in this hotel.||If this is how the kind of customer service they offer to someone who wasn't staying with them, I can only imagine how good it must be if you are a guest.||Anne if you read this I couldn't check in into the hotel, as I said I would, since I couldn't change my plans but I hope you got what I left with Reception for you...
Read moreWe stayed at Scandic in Kristiansund for 1 night in August 2016. We took the bus in from the airport and the bus only took like 15-20 minutes and it stopped just a few minutes from the hotel lobby. Check in was fast and we got room 610. Our room was bigger than usual – I guess we got an executive room. The room had a bed, a large sofa (that I think maybe could be turned into a bed, a desk with a couple of chairs and a TV mounted on the wall. The bed provided at comfortable night sleep although it did get a bit warm in the room as there seem to be no aircon. There was a water boiler for making tea/coffee and a small fridge that was empty. To buy some drinks and snacks you had to go to the reception. There was no safe in the room but I was surprised to see that there was a tiny ironing board mounted on the wall together with an iron. If we wanted to have a real ironing board we had to go to the area right outside the elevator where an ironing board had been setup. Not the best placement in my opinion.
The bathroom was a bit dark but it was tiled with white tiles. There was a bathtub with a shower options and amenities included dispensers with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. The internet requires registration with phone number if I’m not mistaken but it worked out pretty good.
Breakfast was pretty good with a good selection of typical Norwegian breakfast buffet options such as bread, boiled and dried egg, cereal, various spread, fruit etc. They even had oats which was excellent as I usually have this for breakfast. The location of the hotel was pretty good – we just walked over to a restaurant at night so there are stores and restaurants nearby.
All in all a decent hotel for a night. The hotel room was looking a bit tired and the bathroom was a bit dark. I would not mind staying there again but I will probably look for another option if I go to...
Read moreDuring our visits to Norway, we stayed at numerous Scandic Hotels. By some margin this proved to be the worst. There were a number of issues which caused us concern. Firstly upon arrival the front desk was not manned. in effect this meant anyone could have walked in to the hotel and access any of the floors. Secondly, there was no evening meal available. Third and by far the most serious concern is the car parking. The car park is located at a lower level than the hotel. To access the hotel from the car park requires either a walk up the hill or secondly the use of two flights of metal stairs. The stairs have a handrail on one side only and are open to the elements, they are unsuitable for the elderly or young children. Itis questionable if the stairs would pass health and safety regulations in the United Kingdom. The last area of concern is that when we checked in cleaning material had been left...
