Location by the water with wonderful viewpoint. Parking limited as we got in about 8:30, but we just got a spot. Elin at desk was lovely, helpful and friendly in this and all else. Our room?? was just a tad small for its class, but it was functionally fine. We had a view facing the waterfront with a picture perfect showing of the bridge. Bathroom was very nice. The shower was small, but otherwise fine. We got extra bottles of shampoo and conditioner, as they were too small for two people to share. Their service in bringing everything was extremely quick and friendly. The TV was fine with movies in English and good ones, too. The bed and bedding was the star of the show for me. They were both wonderfully comfortable, with the pillows divine – soft and fluffy – you just sink right in. It really was heaven for me. It had a big coach which we just briefly tried out. The side tables by the bed were small, but we have managed with even tiny ones and with none, at all. The room was quiet and the temperature was set centrally at 22C. My wife was cold. We have completely different internal thermostats. I wasn’t, but under the covers all was well, for both of us. With the drapes closed, the room was dark, the way it should be, There were outlets by the bed and at the desk, perfect for our myriad of devices. Breakfast was excellent, through and through. Eggs, both scrambled and sunny side up were great, so too, the potatoes, the warm salmon ( which I normally never have but they looked so good that I had to try ) pastries, pancakes ( particularly excellent, much better than most restaurants I have dined at and certainly surpasses all but the tiniest number of hotels at which I have stayed and that numbers probably 1000+ ), etc. I ate way more than I should have, but it was too good not to. Valeriia answered our call on the road and the next morning with competence and again warm friendliness The ladies who tended to breakfast Irmonte and Lydomilo were lovely, as well. It’s wonderful to deal with professionals who are not only competent, but sincerely devoted to seeing that their guests had a perfect experience. Simply, we had an excellent, relaxing stay. We will be back to Kristiansund, if for no other reason than to...

But I could walk to a nearby shop.|Now, the restaurant closes at 21:30, so I can see how 2 minutes over the set time is a hard no, if you´ve decided that customers and guests aren´t important.||But in my 25 years of traveling the world, I´ve never had a receptionist refuse three times polite "please, I´m really really hungry". Three times NO.|I could have told her how I hurt my back and damaged an ankle earlier in the day, and how I can´t walk to any damn shop up a steep hill half a mile away. |But I didn´t, because I´m not used to hotel staff being like this.||What usually happens when a guest is really really hungry outside restaurant hours, is that the receptionist, even in the middle of the night, offers to get a few slices of bread and some type of spread for instance. Just something from the fridge, to be nice.||But not at Thon Kristiansund. Hard nope. Doors to the restaurant open, people seated at the tables getting served warm, delicious smelling food, lady in the reception completely uninterested and standoffish, just wanted us to leave the reception area.||Rooms are garish, mattresses hard and pillows the type of synthetic that will make your ear overheat. |And there´s construction work on the facade outside that they didn´t mention on booking, usually starting at 07:00 in the morning, so there´ll be builders walking along the scaffolding looking in all...
Read moreThe best location in Kristiansund – and excellent service!
Our room (237) in the old renovated part was spacious, clean and very comfortable with everything you need (see attached photos). Bed was very comfortable.
Breakfast is probably one the best hotel breakfast in Norway – healthy and very nicely presented (see attached photos). The restaurant has a very nice view looking over the harbour. You can also sit outside on the deck of the hotel where there is beautiful afternoon sun and amazing view of the water and boats coming in to Kristiansund.
The location is not in the centre of town but there is a small ferry boat which stops near the hotel and which operates during the daytime. For a small fee you can hop on and off to visit the four main islands of Kristiansund in just a few minutes.
In summary, Thon hotel Kristiansund is a very well run hotel offering a high standard of quality and service. I chose this hotel based on all the good TripAdvisor reviews and was not disappointed! We loved every moment of our stay and would highly recommend this place.
