We were dubious to stay here after reading poor reviews. We stayed one night in a hostel close by and spent a long time on the internet and walking about looking at hotels. We stayed in Corona for 5 nights. Our room was on the street which was noisy in rush hour but our sleep was not interrupted. ||In regards to the place being a brothel I didnt think this, we have read about how it is hard for locals to have private time in their own homes and sometimes rent hotel rooms. I think most of the hotels in this area function as that and possibly more but we didnt once feel unsafe or see/hear any unusual goings on. There was porn on the tv...we have seen this in many budget hostels across central america.||We enjoyed our stay here, the room was large and clean. The aircon was a great relief from the city heat. Fresh towels and bed linen every day. Good location. They did our laundry for cheap and quick. We cant speak spanish but the staff tried to help when we asked questions. Got a deal on the room price for length of stay also.||Wifi not great as our room was furthest from the router. No chill out areas but the rooms are white so do not feel oppressive. English tv channels also. ||Not much restaurants in nearby area, great chinese on next block and a bakery down from McDonalds. A few local...
Read moreAfter reading previous reviews we were leery to stay here. Here's the deal.||Pros;||- Clean||- Solid location; 3 blocks to metro, 5 to water. Not as bad as people suggest, it's safe until 9 or so as in almost all of Panama City (PC).||- AC||- Hot water ||- One of the cheapest options. Much cheaper than a dorm for 2 of us.||||Cons;||- Might actually be a brothel. We never seen anyone here in 3 days, but the cleaners were constantly in rooms cleaning (we think they were hourly visits). As mentioned, there is pretty hardcore porn on the tv||- Front desk is the worst I've ever seen in a 4 month trip. Rude, grumpy, no english, no smiles, short answers, they yell at you if you ask questions. ||- Asked to leave bags for 2 hours before a bus out of town and were told we could leave them on the floor by the front door if we want. She basically said they would be stolen, but just didn't even care enough to tell us that. Front desk is infuriatingly useless. ||- No windows, can get noisy.||||If you are a backpacker and running out of money, this is an option for 2 days (PC is one of the worst in Central/south america anyway). Dont' even think of staying more than that, and don't expect anything in terms of service. If you can afford it,...
Read moreWe booked Pension Corona for all the nights that we decided to stay in Panama City. The hotel is located in the middleclass neighbourhood, quite safe to walk around during the day. Four blocks from the water, walking distance from Old Panama City and downtown. A good option if you wanna a private bedroom, with a good shower and air conditioner. Its clean. Staff is friendly. We don't speak Spanish and for that reason wasn't so easy try to communicate. :-) Good for max 1/2 night otherwise not recommended especially if you expect something luxuriously but for 30$/night is great :-) If you are looking for glitz and glamour this is not your place. If you want to be in an area where the real people live, this is for you.||||Not a single good restaurant near the hotel. The rooms have no windows and there is no place you can hang out...
