We went here to eat dinner. What an awesome location and the ambiance at the restaurant is great. The service was pretty good, the food was OK and the prices were reasonable. I had the snapper which was tasty, but very much overdone and dry. One of our friends had the tuna which was also overdone for what she requested, but again the flavor was very nice. The staff were very friendly here as well, just not as attentive as they should be for such a nice place. Overall I would very much recommend this place for the restaurant. Although we did not stay in the rooms here we did check them out and they were very nice, but a bit on the expensive side for Panama (between $80 and $120 depending on the room). I would likely stay here if we come back to Santa Catalina.

Super cool hotel! The center of Santa Catalina was a bit deserted when we stayed there (off season) so we started our own party at the hotel! We really liked the swimming pool and ping pong table. Quiet environment and frienly owners. We organized a tour to Coiba with them for 80$ per person (8:30-16:30, with 2 snorkeling sessions and lunch on the island). The hotel is right by the advanced surfing spot, and the beginner's one is 10 min walk away. They lend surf boards and bicycles too.

We stayed as a family of 5, 3 teenage boys. |I booked direct via email which was very easy. |The hotel is a short way out of town by car and has a large plot with attractive looking rows of rooms (white with terracotta roofs). |We had a huge open plan room with a single bed and a king sized double bed below and on the mezzanine level another single and a normal double. It’s all pine clad so you feel like you’re in a ski chalet. It’s a little dark even with all the lights on. However the fan and AC worked well, although the mezzanine was always a little bit warmer. |It’s rather hard to cook in the small kitchen space but was fine to prepare breakfast. There was no salt pepper etc. It had a cleaning cream block but no washing up liquid. It did however have a huge fridge. I recommend you do a supermarket shop before you get to Santa Catalina, as the shops are small and expensive and bring condiments and coffee/tea/salt pepper etc. |The gardens are well kept. At the end of the plot is a swing, the restaurant and bar and then beyond that the lovely pool. |It’s all very nicely done. |The beach beyond is not one you’d sit on as at high tide there is very little beach and at low tide it is covered in rocks and trees. Apparently you can surf directly off the beach but this is only recommended for very good surfers. The boys cycled down to the other local beach, the bikes aren’t exactly road worthy but did the job. My husband and I drove the boards down. The boards are free to use. They also have SUP and kayaks but due to the surf you are unlikely to use them on the beach in front of the hotel and would need to take them to one of the other beaches by car. |The hotel restaurant does amazing cocktails (get the passion fruit margarita) and drinks aren’t too expensive. The food was a bit below par (see other review). |I did a yoga class $18, which was fantastic. It’s on an outside yoga podium and they provide mats. They do yoga retreats here. |They are also very helpful when you leave items in arranging for them to be sent on. We left my sons phone and they delivered it to our hotel in Panama city which was lifesaver. |It’s a lovely hotel with...

On our one week vacation in Panama, three days was at Hotel Santa Catalina.

PROS: We are vegan and met one of the owners who stated she is dairy free. She was very nice, and accommodating to our lifestyle. She definitely made my experience top notch. The views are beautiful. I learned that Santa Catalina is a surfing destination and I could see why. Sitting on the patio at the restaurant was so beautiful, especially at sundown. We took a boat ride to Coiba island, and this hotel was within a four minute drive of where we met our tour guide. I forgot to bring my rash guard with me on my trip, and was so thankful they had a surf shop at the hotel so I could purchase one. Next to the pool is a little pathway to the ocean. Although I personally didn’t go in the pool, it was a beautiful pool and it looked fun.

CONS: The air conditioner even when off kept running. It was freezing in the room, and the blankets weren’t thick so we used beach towels as added comfort.

I really loved the atmosphere of this hotel, it wasn’t too big to feel crowded. It was very quaint. I did find three crabs in our room the morning that we were leaving, but the owner even said they can get in. I didn’t feel scared, as I knew they couldn’t climb but I wanted to watch out for my toes.

This isn’t about hotel Santa Catalina, but to whoever reads this, be aware the drive in is bumpy. We were driving under the speed limit, and still trying to avoid hitting cows, dogs and horses. It is recommended to use the restroom and get gas in Santiago, as there are no gas stations from that point on (it was about a 2 hour drive if I...

Gracias...
