First of all the price is quite good for the location and the beach is pretty close. Also there is a big kitchen available with lots of fridge’s to store you’re stuff. The amenities are also in good condition, shower water is sometimes cold, only at the beginning warm. Maybe this depends on how many people have had a shower before you. I booked a room, that looked pretty good on the booking platform, but it was not close to the pictures I saw. Basically it’s a very small room with a door, a small window and a bed, which is still OK for the price. But the first room smelled very moldy and everywhere was black mould on the walls (I uploaded some pictures), not sure if that is even healthy. Also it was not possible to open the window, to give the room some fresh air. I complained and I got an other room. It had also a moldy smell, but far better than the first one. The bed and the linen have also a pretty moldy smell. In this room it was possible to open the window for fresh air. Some improvements would be nice, because the AC is super loud. So it would be helpful to have some mosquito protection on the window, so you’re able to sleep with open windows. Maybe the rooms on the top level are in better condition, but not sure about that, they seems to look bigger. Don’t forget to bring cash, no credit card...
Read moreWhen i arrived with the Selina shuttle from Panama City to in Playa Venao it was a short walk to La Choza.||The minute I entered the litte hut where the reception was i felt kinda home already. ||The Vibe here is friendly and welcoming and Chicho is the best host you can wish for.||He had some great recommendations for eating and trips in the area. ||||I had a room for my own which was very clean and enough space for my stuff plus AC. The bathroom facilities are in a nice open area and as well very clean. The Stuff really took good care of everybody.||||Choosing La Choza was the best decision for me, the other hostels are more busy till midnight and it might be hard for some travellers to catch some sleep, if they just want to surf the next morning :) that might be probably what you gonna do when you are in Playa Venao.||||First I booked for 6 nights, but after 3 nights already i made my decision to book for 9 more nights and stay the whole holiday at this place and if i could i would have stayed there for 3 more weeks! The waves at Playa Venao are perfect to surf for beginners and also for advanced surfers. ||||I miss this place and the people, that bacame friends, but I'm looking forward to visit La Choza and Playa Venao...

My girlfriend and I booked a private bedroom at this hostel for €240 for 3 nights (which was one of the most expensive on our Panama trip). We are used to the hostel like hotels and don’t mind to get the travellers experience.
However, when we arrived at La Choza hostel, our stomachs turned. The host showed us our room and we were surprised. The room looked more like a prison cell, it was that small.
Besides that it was not clean at all in the room. The mattress was very dirty and also the sheets. We told the host at the frostdesk and she was kind enough to help us right away with clean sheets.
Not only our room was a bit dirty the only 3 toilets in de whole hostel were as well. 3 toilets is definitely not enough for a crammed hostel like this one. The dirtyness can be applied for the 4 showers as well.
In the 2 kitchens you can store your groceries in the fridges but we decided not to do that since there is a lot of old food and fruits covered in molt.
We never leave our hotels/hostels early and are not very picky persons. But we had no choice to stay any longer than 1 of the 3 nights here. We would never recommend anyone stay at La Choza and are never ever...
