My wife and I, plus a group of friend, were delighted to be the guests of Bo Angersbach and his staff at Hotel Westfalenhaus during mid October. My wife and I had stayed here last year, and were looking forward to our return. On this trip, we were able to get to know the hotel better... as well as its fine staff. We spent a total of 7 days at Westfalenhaus, and our time at this great hotel was off the charts in every respect. Indeed, Westfalenhaus will remain our "Zu Hause" whenever we are in Asuncion.||||My wife and I stayed in Suite #39 tucked in a corner of the second floor. Our friends were in adjoining rooms on either side of our suite. The unit was spacious, and afforded every convenience one could imagine including a complete kitchen, dining area, two TVs and super reliable WIFI. The two AC units kept our living area and bedroom comfortable throughout our stay. Dual outlets for 110 and 220 volts are installed in each of the 54 units in Westfalenhaus. Our rooms were immaculate, and attended by two wonderful "mucamas" who kept our spaces ship-shape. The rooms also have lock-boxes in each room... the lock and key is available at the front desk without additional charge. (Just don't lose the key... it will cost you $100 US!)||||The small pool in the hotel garden provides ample opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the hotel. Several conference rooms, mini-kneipes, a business center, a party room with barbecue facilities, gym, sauna and ping pong tables round out the rest of the hotel's amenities. The grounds are well-maintained and green. The Piroschka Restaurant offers a wide selection of European foods, wine, beer and spirits. The food is exceptionally good and obviously prepared with much TLC. Dario is a waiter, and one of the mainstays at the restaurant. He kept us entertained with his quick wit and dry sense of humor. Rebeka, our morning breakfast waitress took great care of my group, and always went the extra mile to fulfill our special requests. ||||The front desk staff consisting of Katharine, Silviana and Victor are among the finest hospitality professionals I have come across. They make everything happen...whether it is changing a light bulb, finding lodging in the German colonies or arranging transportation, this super team does it all. We are very thankful for their invaluable assistance during our stay.||||I would be remiss if I did not mention the fine security team at Westfalenhaus... namely Cristian and Mickey... who went above and beyond their normal duties to help us out.||||We enjoyed getting to know the General Manager, Bo Angersbach (who happens to be the son of the late founder, Friedhelm). Hotel Westfalenhaus started out as a family affair when the Angersbach family arrived in Asuncion from Germany in the late 1980s. The hotel started out as a small inn. The original hotel is a small building known as the "color haus." Bit by bit, the Angersbach family grew the hotel into what it is today. Hotel Westfalenhaus hosts guests from all over the world... but the preponderance of guests come from Germany... some to visit... others to live in Paraguay. In many respects, Westfalenhaus is more than just a hotel... it is a waystation for travelers and prospective ex-patriates looking for a new life in Paraguay. Over the years, Hotel Westfalenhaus and the Angersbach family have played an important role in tourism. Bo Angersbach and his office staff are well-connected throughout the country. In every room, you will find the Paraguay tour guide "TAP guia Paraguay." This book is a comprehensive tour guide written in 3 languages.. Spanish, German and English. The guide was co-authored by the late founder, Friedhelm Angersbach, and published by Westfalenhaus Verlag. If you wish to own it, the cost is $10 US. Westfalenhaus is a great resource if one is new to the country.||||The hotel is strategically located less than 15 minutes from the airport in an upscale neighborhood of Asuncion. It is far enough to be out of the hustle and bustle of Asuncion Centro, yet a quick 15 - 20 minute will put you in the heart of Asuncion. Taxis and drivers are available 24 hours a day by making a request at the front desk. By the way, Westfalenhaus provides complimentary transportation to and from the airport. Our driver, Ulyses, spoke English, and was able to give us a tour of the city. His services are recommended if you choose not to rent a car. If Gerrman meats and sausages, beer and wine, or baked goods appeal to you, make sure you drop into the brand new food mall, Casa Rica. It is just a 5 - 10 minute drive from the hotel.||||What I enjoy about Hotel Westfalenhaus is the camaraderie among the guests. The hotel promotes feelings of well-being and friendship. Not to mention, I am happy to have the opportunity to brush up on my somewhat rusty German. I'm sure the rest of my group would agree with my hearty endorsement of Hotel Westfalenhaus as THE place to stay when...
Read moreOnce again, my wife and I visited our "secret getaway," Asuncion, Paraguay. We truly enjoy relaxing, low-key sightseeing, shopping and enjoying the culinary delights in the city. And once again, we stayed at our "home away from home," Hotel Westfalenhaus. From our arrival at the airport, and the hotel's driver waiting for us as we leave arrivals, Hotel Westfalenhaus is a known quantity. The hotel's General Manager, Bo Angersbach, and his wonderful staff treat guests as if they are old friends... or even family! The same staff has been in place since our first visit in late 2017 which speaks volumes for the Westfalenhaus Team.||||My wife and I stayed in a comfortable apartosuite named "Muenchen." The unit includes a comfortable living room with couch, dining table, flat screen TV, kitchenette with sink and refrigerator. The living room is equipped with a remote controlled AC unit and ceiling fans which makes the room cool and comfortable when the weather turns hot and sticky. Off to the side is a dining room cabinet stocked with cooking utensils, china of all sorts and glassware. The bathroom is spacious and outfitted with a more than ample shower stall, hot water heaters, shower chair and plenty of shelf room for storing toiletries. Door from the bathroom open into the living room and the master bedroom. ||||Our Master Bedroom included an ample double bed, a wooden clothing closet with hangers, chest of draws and a working electronic safe. A second flat-screen TV is situated in front of the bed. Like in the living area, the Master Bedroom is equipped with a remote-controlled AC and ceiling fan. There is even a clothes dummy at the foot of the bed.||||I would estimate the unit's floor plan to be around 500 square feet. Our room opened into one of the courtyards and next to one of the outside bar/dining areas, and just across from the business center. The basic WIFI at the hotel is gratis, and reaches most of the rooms. A few of the outlying units experience poor WIFI signals. The hotel even offers paid premium WIFI, but the free WIFI was more than sufficient for our purposes.||||Overall, the hotel is well-maintained, and there is an on-going maintenance plan to keep the facility ship-shape and to implement capital improvements. At the time of our visit, the pool was undergoing reconstruction to implement repairs and upgrades to the pool.||||Piroschka Restaurant delivers an excellent American/European style breakfast buffet. The gourmet lunches and dinners are excellent and very reasonably priced. Our favorite bartenders/waiters, Rebeka and Dario will keep your glass and belly full. The kitchen staff excel at preparing European and international culinary masterpieces.||||We look forward to our next trip to our second home in Asuncion, Hotel Westfalenhaus. Many thanks to Bo and his staff, and a special thank you to the following employees who went the extra mile on our behalf: Katharine, Victor, Al, Cristian, Rebeka and Dario as well as the hotel...
Read moreOther guests have already posted photos of this lovely hotel and the reality more than exceeded my expectations.||From the moment that I arrived the friendly and very efficient reception team did everything that they could to ensure I had a great stay (I stayed for 4 nights). My bedroom was excellent. Comfortable bed, TV, ceiling fan, A/C, fridge. The bathroom had a great power shower and toiletries were supplied plus an efficient hair dryer. Everything was just spotless and very well maintained throughout my stay.||Breakfast is also excellent. Breads, croissants, cakes, pastries, meats, cheese, tomatoes, coffee, tea, fresh fruit and yoghurts.||Dinner is fantastic. And their desserts are a sin in themselves.||The hotel is situated in a quiet part of the city. The grounds are lush, sub-tropical vegetation, and again all maintained to a very high standard. There is also a small gym that I really enjoyed. Plus a lovely little swimming pool. ||The staff speak English, they are friendly, efficient and they create an ambience that is redolent of all the qualities of friendship and hospitality at its best.||I hope to return to Paraguay next year and to stay once more in this lovely...
