We had the misfortune of staying here for 2 nights while visiting Caral, near Barranca. While on first impressions the hotel seemed good, our opinion quickly went downhill. The room was very large and quite modern; they're trying to make it like a decent hotel so it has extras like minibar, phone etc and they clean the room every day. But we had a lot of problems. Firstly, they'd only given us one bath towel and two small hand ones. We called and they brought us another big one. However, the next day when they changed the towels it was exactly the same as before and we had to ask for an extra towel again - pretty stupid. The shower was hot on the first day but only for one shower (and we don't have ridiculously long showers!); the second day there was no hot water at all. We rang to complain and they sent someone up; 20 mins later we got a call to say it was fixed. It wasn't. We had a bus to catch though so no more time to waste and had to make do with cold showers. Although the hotel is quite new, the bathroom already had plenty of mould growing in the shower and the sink didn't empty; there was also mould growing by the wardrobe in the room. The breakfast was one of the worst we've had in Peru and very disappointing for a hotel. All you get is a couple of stale dry bread rolls and one egg. They brought us papaya juice the first day, which we don't like, and the next day no juice at all rather than offering us something different. Wifi was extremely frustrating - it went up and down constantly and we had to keep restarting the router. ||Staff tried to be helpful and were friendly, but just didn't have the information we needed. Would recommend asking at the tourist info over the road rather than at the hotel. And finally, it's very noisy - maybe it was partly because we were there for the celebration of the town's founding, but there seemed to be people shouting and music playing all night. It's a noisy town anyway - try to get a room off the street! Would not bother coming back here and it's certainly not worth the 100 soles we paid. Options are limited in...
Read moreThis hotel was not worth 80 soles per night. At repeption a girl was staring at security screems while behind her a young male receptionist was attempting to chat her up. He could see me, she couldnt, and for 2 minutes he ignored me while I stood and waited and he crooned in her ear. Finally he deigned to notice me. When he told me the price of a room and I asked if there was discount for a stay of a week he laughed aloud and contemptously said No, as if implying a poor gringo like myself should never have entered the hotel in the first place. After I booked in this arrogant surly boy of a receptionist didnt want to carry my two backpacks up to my room but got the girl assistant to do so instead. The water in my bathroom was not turned on and a technician had to find the faucet hidden behind the wall tiling. When I returned from eating out the room had flooded (I had not used the bathroom). I was switched to another room where there were no drinks at all in the minibar--and the surly boy wouldnt let me use the minibar in my old room. I had to order drinks from reception and was told there was only beer. The next morning there was no hot water in my shower. The technician came back and said hed return in 5 minutes and the water would then be hot. After 36 minutes of waiting I rang down to complain. The surly boy came up. He gave no apology or offer of discount or offer to move me to another room again. I said I`d had enough and to get my bill ready. He grabbed the room key and TV control without a word, looked in the minibar he knew was empty and flounced out in a pout. At reception a new receptionist was more sympathetic. I asked to see the manager or his deputy - there were none. I found this incredible for a 3-star hotel - where were they, lolling in bed, getting drunk ?...
