Severe food poisoning!
El Samay is a beautiful hotel but it is not situated near anything (it is certainly not in Punta Sal as it says it is). This means you have to eat lunch and dinner every day at the hotel.
Unfortunately, they gave me food poisoning twice. The first time with seafood which after taking some medication, resolved pretty quickly. The second time, from Ceviche, was absolutely horrendous. It sent me to the medical centre for a drip and was violently sick for hours. The worst part was they kept denying it. They said the first time was just a dish with lots of ingredients and therefore my stomach couldn't handle it and the second time they said it was just the acid (so they gave me a laxative to fix it which just made everything so much worse). With 80% of the menu being fish or seafood and no restaurants around to go to, staying at this hotel is a massive risk for your health.
It is stunning, the beach is lovely and the room is very comfortable but it isn't worth the risk of food poisoning and it isn't anywhere near Punta Sal (two and a half hour walk away). Avoid this place and book...
Read moreWow - what a spectacular place to stay near Punta Sal! We loved the view from our very comfortable and spacious room and thoroughly enjoyed being served breakfast on our veranda as well as lunch and dinner if we so desired. The staff was very attentive, and we never had to wait long for food and drinks. All the meals we tried at El Samay were excellent and fresh made, especially the fresh caught lobster. Our favorite things to do were to lay on the double chaise lounge on the beach and watch the waves come in and also wade in the refreshing pool with our cocktails in hand. For a peaceful/tranquil retreat, this is hands down the best place to be. And Mancora is only 30 minutes away for the nightlife party scene, although we recommend taking an Uber or Taxi because there are checkpoints and pot holes to watch out for. And also let someone at the hotel know you will be out late so that they can let you in when it's past midnight. ||All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at El Samay and highly recommend this peaceful hidden gem of a place....
Read moreMy kids and I had a wonderful 5 days at this ocean side property. The staff were ALL incredible. The people from Punta Sal are kind, generous and honest. We ordered most of our meals from the restaurant and were happy with the quality of the food and the presentation. Thanks to the chef, Miguel Angel. We had the option to take our meals either in our balcony or the dining areas they have set up throughout the property. I had my coffee brought up to me early in the morning before my run, then had breakfast later with the kids. I cannot say enough what a wonderful experience we had. It is a small place, which is exactly what we were looing for. You will be glad you chose this hotel. Thank you to Sr. Percy, Rosemary, Carolina and Miguel Angel and the rest of the staff. You were all so kind and generous. I hope the owners know how great their staff is. We will...
