"Ah, the 'Grand' Hotel Huanuco - where the only thing grander than the name is the sheer disappointment that awaits you. From the moment you step into the crumbling lobby, it's like stepping back in time to the 1970s, except with less charm and more dust. The rooms? Let's just say they're 'cozy' - if by 'cozy' you mean 'barely big enough to fit a twin-sized mattress and a cockroach or two'. And the service? Well, the staff seems to have perfected the art of completely ignoring their guests, which I suppose is a 'skill' of sorts. But hey, at least the WiFi is consistently inconsistent, so you'll never be bored waiting for that page to load. Overall, if you're looking for a 'grand' experience that'll make you long for the sweet release of a budget motel, then this is the place for you. Just don't say I didn't warn you." Read moreI stayed here four nights and had the matrimonial room which had a king size bed, huge flat screen tv, and quite a large room with ornamental wooden floor. The lights were bare exposed bulbs and the bathroom was barebones. The bed was comfortable. The hotel is situated off the town square and there are many restaurants and stores in the area. I found drivers in the square liked to honk their horns at night with no regard for those sleeping. Each room has a fan and after the first couple of night of rough sleep I turned the fan on to mask the noise which worked fine. The staff was very friendly but did not speak a lot of English. Hotel had a nice pool in a small court and a larger court had a pretty fountain. The hotel has a lot of character and this is the best place to stay in town...
